Veena Dark

Veena Dark is a character introduced in Defenders of the Earth fan fiction, created by James. Featured initially as a minor player in the tales of Earth S and Earth N, she later gained a recurring role in Defenders of the Earth: This Is Their Side Story. The daughter of Dale Arden and Damian Dark — an unhinged magician from the TV series — Veena is thought to be one of the most powerful magic users in the galaxy, alongside her father, Zorelda, Mandrake, and Mandrake's daughter Amy.

Early Life 

Shortly after she began college, Dale Arden met a charming professor named Dr. Damian Dark, whom she later discovered possessed mystical powers. Fascinated, Dale chose to continue their secret romance, which ultimately resulted in the birth of their daughter Veena. 

Seemingly driven mad by his power, Damian had a falling out with Dale and literally disappeared with their child, teleporting to an unknown location. Amidst her search for Veena, Dale bonded with Flash Gordon, whom she would later marry, and famously became involved in a struggle between Earth and planet Mongo.

Upbringing

Like Krotan of Mongo, Veena was raised under a corrupt parent's influence, living in isolated mansions with Damian, who taught her to avoid social interactions in schools. Though she and her mother were separated, Veena learned Dale's identity, and admired the woman's heroic exploits from afar.

Her powers began to manifest during her preteen years. Taking advantage of this, Damian led Veena to abuse her skills, using her as his partner on raids, attacks, and other private ventures. The pair's dishonorable schemes eventually created an ethical conflict within a teenage Veena, who continued to be moved by her mother's heroism, and mourned Dale after she fell in battle with Ming. 

During a clash against the Defenders of the Earth, who were led by Dale's ex Flash, Veena finally separated from Damian, becoming something of a wildcard amidst the subsequent affairs. 

She later helped to revive her mother via a spell, and began bonding with the woman while displaying a collected and compassionate side. 

Veena then served as an occasional vigilante, venturing out from her mansion to keep an eye on the city.

Skills

During her preteen years, Veena developed the ability to fly, and was forbidden from doing so — but practiced in secret regardless. Her other known powers include lightning projection and direction, teleportation, and various necromancy skills.
