Race: Human
Skills: Strategy, combat, mechanics
Family: Gordons
Around three years before Earth's first contact with planet Mongo, Janet worked as a federal law-enforcement agent for the United States government. It was during this period that she met Ian Elisonne, a charming fellow operative with whom she fell in love. One year later, a married Janet and Ian welcomed their daughter, Victoria. Two years afterward, Janet's brother Flash returned from space with proof that the newly discovered planet Mongo was a threat to Earth. In response, the agency created a special defense unit, headed by Janet, Ian, Flash, and Flash's fellow explorer Dale, who would soon marry into the family. The team remained intact for two years. Accounts of how they separated vary. Afterward, she went to work for the Intergalactic Union Agency, Earth's premier organization created for defense and diplomacy, rising in stature over time while attempting to maintain a strong bond with her daughter and other family members.
Sailor Moon Defenders
Early facets of Janet's character were introduced in Sailor Moon Defenders. This tale establishes that, though well-intentioned, Janet is impulsive on occasion. She is sometimes prejudiced toward extraterrestrials and beings possessing supernatural abilities, which creates anxiety within her when her nephew Rick becomes empowered mysteriously. Janet is generally viewed as the wildcard or antiheroine of the family, using methods that most of the others might not.
Defenders Chronicles: Highlander
Janet is introduced as the head of the Intergalactic Union Agency in Defenders Chronicles: Highlander. While fulfilling her professional duties, she attempts to reconnect with her daughter Tori, an IUA researcher who was raised by Flash and Dale while Janet was unavailable for parenting.
Highlander: Earth N1
Highlander: Earth N1 follows Janet and the IUA in a shadow dimension, parallel to that of Defenders Chronicles: Highlander. This work begins by retelling certain DCH tales, but quickly transitions to new material, expanding the concepts from the original dramatically. During Earth N1, Janet targets the alien embassy Ceti Alpha 5 while attempting to avenge Ian, who was victimized by a malicious extraterrestrial. However, she accidentally harms several bystanders, which results in her being incarcerated for years while Dale and Flash raise Tori.
Upon being released, Janet proves wiser and stronger, gaining eventual leadership of the IUA and engaging in several diplomatic affairs while helping to thwart supernatural threats.
As in Defenders Chronicles: Highlander, she seeks to reestablish her bond with Tori, who serves as one of the IUA's top operatives alongside a romantic interest.
Alternate Dimensions
In other tales, including one introduced in fan art, Janet and Ian separate when she makes a mistake that costs them custody of their seven-year-old while he's away, but reunite and resume raising Tori years later.
Skills and Demeanor
Like most members of the Gordon family, Janet is a talented mechanic and a skilled combatant. She is focused and frank at work, and excels primarily in the areas of strategy and diplomacy, gifts that led to her being named IUA leader, essentially making her the most powerful woman in the world. At times, her impulses have created friction between herself and her relatives. However, she generally makes proper decisions, and is ultimately admired and loved for the dedication that she displays on a professional level and at home.
