The Space Between

Chapter Six: Patient Number 7
Kyra was laying strapped to a hospital bed in a padded room. She wasn't sure if that was even her name, but she didn't even remember who she was or how she even got here. She just laid there with her hands in front of her, and she didn't even acknowledge the doctor that had just entered the room.
"Evening, Number Seven," the doctor greeted Kyra. She could hear what he was saying, but she was still in her trance like state, "Nobody home. Hell, girl, you don't even know where you are."
The doctor then glanced at the straps, "You promise not to fuss, maybe I take these off for a while. What do you say?"
Kyra continued to stare blankly at the ceiling.
"Guess that's a yes. Huh?" the doctor replied.
The doctor ran his hand down Kyra's body, "Good. You just relax now."
He slipped his hand up under her hospital gown, "Let Jocko help you remember. Jocko is going to take care of everything."
Kyra continued staring at the ceiling even as the doctor was doing all that.
Jocko continued to runs his hand back up Kyra's body, "Good."
He jumped and turned upon noticing two men entering the room, "Hey, listen. I-I didn't do nothing!"
One of the men raised their gun.
"No, no!" the doctor exclaimed. The man then shot him.
"There's something wrong with her," the first man stated.
The second man took the clip out of the gun, and blew on end of clip, "You care?"
"She's not moving."
The second man placed the clip back in gun, "So much the better."
He pointed the gun at Kyra's head, and in turn Kyra snapped out of trance at the sound of the gun clip being inserted and rolled away with a gasp as the man fired his gun. She fought them both off, ran out of the room and down corridor, and noting that the men were following her.
"This is an all points bulletin for the central district. A murder at the Hospital Central for the Criminally Insane. Suspect is Caucasian female, five foot six inches," Kyra heard a man on the police radio announced.
Kyra peeked around the corner of a building at police car, and then she continued sneaking away once it was gone.
-The-Space-Between-
Kyra was startled upon feeling a poke as she was sleeping on ledge under bridge. She noticed a little girl standing nearby.
"Relax. It's okay. I-I was just... I was sleeping," Kyra assured the little girl.
"Do you live here?" the little girl asked.
"No. It's not very comfortable," Kyra answered as she looked around.
"What's your name?" the little girl asked.
"I don't know."
"How come you don't know your name? Everybody knows their own name."
Kyra shook her head, unable to explain what was going on with her.
"Are you sick?" the little girl asked.
"Maybe I am," Kyra answered.
"Then you should go home," the little girl suggested.
"Maybe I should," Kyra agreed before she got down from the ledge, and walked off.
-The-Space-Between-
Vladic was holding a glass eye up to taxidermic lynx head as Callestina was standing next to him, "Ah, the eyes. My biggest problem, always the eyes. The claws are not so difficult, you see, or even the... the teeth. These things... show only the anger and the rage. Easy stuff, really. With the eyes, it is different. The eyes are always the hardest, and you know why, Lazlo?"
Lazlo didn't respond.
Vladic continued, "No. Perhaps you, Zep. Because the eyes alone show intelligence. Something you wouldn't know about. The order was simple, yes? The objective clear. Medicated, lying in a hospital bed. A goddamn girl is all, and you can't even kill her and bring her to me."
"He's right," Callestina chimed in, crossing her arms, "You two had one job, and you failed."
"But- But, General Vladic, she – she ran," Zep stammered.
"Oh, my. Really?" Vladic replied, "You expect her to stand and wait for a bullet like those miserable peasants in Karachi? You're supposed to be soldiers!"
"Sir…." Zep started to say.
"If we were still in the field, I would have you buried in the lime pit," Callestina chimed in, "and Milos here wouldn't waste a bullet first."
"But I don't think that she….." Zep started to say.
"Exactly! You follow orders. I want this girl dead," Vladic stressed, "I want you to bring me her body. Start using your eyes to find her now."
"Or maybe I decide you don't need them anymore," Callestina chimed in.
"Precisely," Vladic smirked at his partner.
"General Vladic, Miss Callestina, there's something wrong with her," Zep countered.
"Yes. Yes, she's still alive," Callestina replied.
"No, no, there is something more," Zep insisted, "I don't think that she was hiding. I don't think that she knew us."
"Don't be stupid. How could she not know you?" Vladic retorted.
Zep motioned with his hand, "Lazlo."
Lazlo handed over the patient chart he grabbed from the nurse's station counter.
Vladic and Callestina both looked at papers, and the former noted, "That's interesting. It seems our little problem has amnesia."
Callestina added, "She has no idea who she is. Smile, Zep. It makes your job that much easier."
"How?" Zep asked.
"Because without her memory, she will be forced to rely on instinct…" Vladic answered.
"Like an animal. Did you ever hunt a- a big cat?" Callestina added, "Of course not. Until Vladic turned you into soldiers, you couldn't flush a toilet."
"Exactly," Vladic stated, "A wounded animal is confused and frightened. It goes to ground, to someplace it feels safe. Somewhere familiar. She's wounded."
"And she will go to ground," Callestina stated before she tapped a map of Paris displayed nearby, "Here."
-The-Space-Between-
Duncan walked down sidewalk with Richie in tow.
"What do you think?" Richie asked.
"I don't know," Duncan shook his head, "It sounds like a tall tale."
"Well, you've been around longer than I have," Richie replied, "so,
Duncan and Richie both sensed the buzz. The two men looks around. They saw a blonde woman with her hair matted and she was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. Duncan recognized the woman right away, "Kyra."
Kyra only stared at him, causing Duncan to call out to her, "It's me... MacLeod."
"You know her?" Richie asked.
"Behind you!" Kyra exclaimed. The two men turned to look and Kyra ran back the way she came.
"Hey, that was a neat trick," Richie replied, upon realizing what she had done.
"Come on," Duncan urged his student.
Duncan and Richie then followed her into the warehouse.
DM looked around warehouse, "Kyra. Kyra, what's going on?"
"At least come out and talk to us," Richie chimed in, "Not a good place to play hide and seek by the way."
"Kyra? Kyra?" Duncan called out. Kyra struck him in the stomach with a length of pipe, then did the same to Richie and ran off again.
"Oof!" Duncan exclaimed.
"Hey!" Richie added, reacting to the hit.
"What was that for? Kyra." Duncan exclaimed.
Kyra swings pipe wildly at him. He ducks, and Richie grabbed her.
"What is your problem?" Richie asked her, "We're not going to hurt you."
"Kyra, what's going on?" Duncan asked.
"You know me?" Kyra asked in turn, seemingly confused.
"He knows you," Richie answered, "I just met you."
"We were friends," Duncan added in.
"Friends? Then why did you chase me?" Kyra asked, confused.
"Because you ran. We were friends," Duncan insisted, "At least I thought we were. What happened to you?"
"I don't know," Kyra answered.
The two men heard the police announce nearby, "Five foot six. She's considered dangerous. Approach with caution."
Kyra reacted to the police siren wailing in distance.
"Looks like she did something," Richie stated, "Because I sure as hell didn't."
"That's an understatement," Duncan replied before he asked Kyra, "What did you do? They're not after me. Now what did you do?"
"I don't know, you understand?" Kyra answered, "I don't know."
The two men heard the sound of car doors slamming in distance.
"We'll talk about it afterwards. Come on," Duncan started to move away and Richie followed him. Kyra remained frozen in place.
Duncan and Richie both looked back at her.
"Look, I don't know you that well, but it's either them or us," Richie firmly told her.
"It's your choice, but you'd better make it fast," Duncan replied before he held his hand out to her. She took it and the three immortals made a run for it.
-The-Space-Between-
"Kyra. Kyra. Kyra. There, you happy?" Kyra replied as she clearly has amnesia as the three immortals were under the quay, "It doesn't mean anything."
"Well, it's your name," Duncan replied.
"Right. That's what you keep telling me," Kyra replied.
"Then what do you remember?" Richie asked.
Kyra closed her eyes and saw a flash of a padded room, "A room. A white room."
She closed her eyes again, and saw a flash of a hospital bed, a hospital corridor, and a metal cart with bottles of drugs on it, "Chemicals."
"A hospital. Go on. Keep trying," Duncan urged his friend.
Kyra closed her eyes again and saw a flash of a man pointing gun at her. She gasped, and stumbled back a few steps.
"What is it?" Richie asked.
"Oh, my God. There was a gun," Kyra stated in shocked before she saw a flash of the doctor's body on the floor, "There was a- There was a body. There was a dead body. What does it mean?"
Richie shook his head, "I'm not sure."
"You tell me," Duncan added quietly.
"I can't! Don't you get it? I'm trying, but I can't get anything out of there," Kyra told the two men, "Oh, just forget it. Just forget it!"
"Fine. You want to run? Go ahead, but where're you going to go?" Richie replied, slightly annoyed.
"He's right," Duncan added, "You've got no money. You've got no ID. You don't even know who you are."
"I don't know who the hell you two are," Kyra stressed, "Why should I trust you? Give me a reason. Give me one good reason."
"Because there is no one else," Duncan answered.
-The-Space-Between-
"We waited all day, and she did not show," Zep announced.
"It's only a matter of time before she does show up," Callestina replied.
"And she will. It's only a matter of time," Vladic added, "and when she does, you will be there."
"Seems like a lot of trouble…" Zep replied before he cocked his gun, "for nothing."
He pulled the trigger. The gun clicked on an empty chamber.
"She can't remember anything. Forget about her," Zep insisted.
"Sooner or later, she will remember everything and come for us," Callestina informed him.
"And it's always better to be the hunter than the prey. Always," Vladic added before he glanced at the trophy animals, "Ask any of them."
Zep slammed the clip back into the gun, and then left the room with Lazlo.
-The-Space-Between-
Duncan, Richie and Kyra were finishing a candlelight dinner al fresco.
Kyra downed her glass of wine, reaches for Duncan's, "You mind?"
She took the glass from him and downed it too, "God, that hits the spot."
"I should hope so," Duncan held out a serving bowl.
"Tenth-century Moorish, Umayyad period. Nice piece," Kyra stated as she took the food from the bowl.
"Yes, it is, but how did you know?" Duncan asked.
"I don't know. How did I know? How could I know something like that?" Kyra asked in turn.
Duncan and Richie both gave her a look and Duncan tapped his temple with a finger.
"You're right. Maybe I'm a history professor or an antiquities dealer," Kyra then stated, "Someone in the arts, museums, something like that?"
"Maybe or maybe not," Duncan replied.
"Right, the Immortal thing. Hold on. My name is Kyra," Kyra elaborated further, "and you and I have known each other – correct me if I'm wrong here - four hundred years."
"Well, actually, it was more like three hundred and fifty," Duncan corrected her.
He then recalled in 1640, France where Duncan MacLeod interacted with Kyra.
"If you expect me to believe that, then- then you're the one that should have been in the hospital," Kyra told the Highlander, "I think I'll take my chances alone."
She started to walk away.
"There's a birthmark on your thigh," Duncan told her in turn, "Left leg. It's... inside. Shaped like a small butterfly."
"Turn around," Kyra replied.
Both men complied before she dropped her jeans, looked at her thigh and then gasps, upon seeing the birthmark, "Oh, my God!"
Kyra pulled her jeans back up, "So, you and me, we were really- I mean, we were lovers? You were somebody I could…."
Kyra then sighed, "Please, I've got to know."
"Once. Just one night. We were... friends," Duncan answered, "but I haven't seen you in over a hundred years."
"Can't have been much of a night then," Kyra stated.
"Oh, I don't know. I remember it," Duncan replied.
"Must have been a hell of a story," Richie chimed in, glancing at the older immortals.
"Okay, maybe you knew me, but all that other stuff. I just don't buy it," Kyra stated before Duncan handed her a short length of a metal pipe, causing her to ask, "What's this?"
Duncan attacked her with his own piece of pipe. She dodged it.
"Stop it!" Kyra exclaimed.
Kyra and Duncan exchanged parries. She knocked his pipe from his hand and then he grabbed her wrist.
"It's really true, isn't it?" Kyra asked.
"All of it," Duncan answered.
"You seem to be a really good fighter," Richie stated, slightly drunk from the wine he drunk.
"Is he okay?" Kyra asked, pointing at the red head.
"He's fine," Duncan answered, "He's fine. Richie has dealt with a lot recently. He lost his wife. It was terrible."
"I see," Kyra nodded before she asked, "So, why can't I remember? I had friends, a life, people that loved me. How can you forget your whole life?"
"It's called hysterical amnesia. When your mind can't handle things, it just shuts down," Duncan answered, "The good news is it's not permanent. You'll get your mind back."
"What if I don't want my memory back? What I if really killed those people?" Kyra asked.
Neither men had no answer for her.
Kyra moved away from them on deck, and she tried to remember.
Kyra then saw herself dancing with Richard to Symphonie fantastique in C Minor by Alberto Lizzio. She saw Richard kissing Kyra's neck as she played the piano, and then she saw herself and Richard wrapped in sheets on bed, kissing.
-The-Space-Between-
"You didn't have to come with me," Kyra insisted as Richie was walking down the streets with her.
"Mac asked me to walk off the booze," Richie replied, "I'm sorry if I sounded off earlier."
"It's okay," Kyra nodded, "I wish I could say I understand how you feel though."
Kyra and Richie walked down the street. They saw one of the men lounging nearby.
Kyra peeked around corner of building at the men, "You."
She moved closer while the man was looking the other way. She hid again when he moved to get in driver's side of car.
Kyra climbed the drain pipe to apartment balcony, with Richie following her.
-The-Space-Between-
Kyra and Richie entered through the balcony doors, and they looked around and ducked under police tape.
"It seems that something has drawn you to this place," Richie stated.
"Yeah," Kyra nodded, "It seems that way."
She suddenly remembered playing the piano – Symphonie fantastique in C Minor by Alberto Lizzio.
Richard came up behind her, kisses her neck. She continued to play and then took his hand, stood up and danced with him as the symphony continued playing in background.
Kyra picked up a picture frame with broken glass. The photo was of her with her lover Richard. She moved through the apartment, breathing heavily, clutching the picture frame.
"Your lover?" Richie asked, noticing Kyra holding the picture. Kyra slowly nodded before she reached the broken balcony doors with police tape across them.
"It's time to go," Richard told her before she recalled the day he was killed.
Months Ago
Kyra was balancing on top of the balcony railing as Richard moved the suitcases in the bedroom.
"Now, I really wish you wouldn't do that," Richard advised, "What if you fell?"
Kyra hopped down from railing, "You know I'll only bounce."
She joined him in apartment, "But anyway, I prefer the view from in here."
With that, Kyra kisses him.
"Mm," Richard replied in turn.
"We're going to the countryside. You won't be in international court anymore," Kyra stated in a sing song tone, No more microphones. No more threats. No more reporters."
"Good God, how will we spend our time?" Richard asked.
"Leave the diversions to me," Kyra answered, "You've earned it after six months on the bench."
"Six months or six years would have been worth it," Richard declared, "Vladic is going to prison for the rest of his life."
"He's an Immortal, Richard. It won't be forever. If I'd had my way…" Kyra started to say.
"I know, you would have had his head," Richard cut her off, "but his crimes were against humanity, and humanity's punished him."
"I know. Look, for a month, we forget all that, huh? No more courtrooms. No more criminals."
"And no guns?"
Kyra held up her arms, and turned in a circle for his perusal, "Not even a small one. The only problem..."
"Hmm?"
"Running out of champagne," Kyra kissed him again, "Or oysters."
Richard accepted another kiss, "Mm."
"Or Black Sea caviar," Kyra continued before giving him another kiss, and then started unbuttoning his shirt.
"Um, weren't we leaving?" Richard asked.
"Practice," Kyra replied before the couple kissed again.
The Present
Kyra remembered that fateful day, sobbing, looking at the photo in broken frame.
Months Ago
Kyra heard the phone ring, "Ah!"
She pointed at Richard, "Don't move."
Kyra then picked up phone, "Hello?"
Richard – heard a knock at door, "Always late, huh?"
The knock on the door repeated.
"Yeah, just a second. I'm coming," Richard called out.
"Yes, he is, but we were just about- Sorry. What did you say? When?" Kyra spoke into the phone before she sensed the buzz, "Richard!"
Richard opened the front door. Vladic and Callestina entered, with the former pointing gun at him.
"No!" Kyra screamed.
Vladic and Zep shot Richard. Richard fell to the floor, dead.
"No!" Kyra screamed.
More men entered the apartment. Kyra threw herself through the closed glass balcony doors and off the balcony railing as they fired at her.
The Present
"I should have known. I should have been ready. Oh!" Kyra cried before she got up and set the picture aside.
"I'm sorry about your loss," Richie offered his condolences.
"Thanks," Kyra wiped her tears away.
Then she took a case out of the wardrobe, opened it, removed gun.
"What do you plan to do?" Richie asked.
"What I should've done a long time ago," Kyra answered.
They left the apartment and saw the two men still sitting in parked car, listening to rock music.
"Might lose my nerve. Might even miss," Kyra told Richie as they were near the men before Kyra noted the gun belonging to one of the men, "What have you got there?"
She shot through the car door and killed the first man.
"Jesus," the other man replied.
"But not this time," Kyra declared as she glanced at Richie, "Take that back to Vladic and tell him I want to see him and Callestina as well. Go!"
The other man started his engine, and drove away with squeal of tires.
"Think he got the message?" Richie asked.
"Possibly so," Kyra answered.
-The-Space-Between-
"And she shot him through the door!" Zep exclaimed as he threw his hands in the air, "Ah!"
"It's what the enemy least expect," Callestina replied.
"A good tactic," Vladic added as he nodded, "It's better this way."
"Oh? How?" Zep asked.
"Because now she will come to us," Callestina answered.
"Now we fight on my terms, on my ground, and this time I will kill her. Call," Vladic added, "Tell her we meet at the observatory."
"And bring the boy," Callestina added, "I'm interested in taking him on."
He handed the phone to Zep.
Zep turned the phone on, "What time?"
"Doesn't matter. We'll already be there," Vladic answered.
-The-Space-Between-
Duncan senses the buzz, and he saw Kyra and Richie approaching, "So, you're back. What about all that happened in the papers?"
Kyra was now wearing her own clothes now: a black top, leather jacket, black pants and black boots, "Not me. His name is Vladic."
"Milos Vladic?" Duncan asked.
"He called genocide military victories," Kyra answered.
"And Callestina," Richie added, "from what the IUA was able to gather out, she was the girlfriend to Grayson before Mac took his head."
"Something I wasn't aware of," Duncan replied, "and after Vladic's trial, the chief judge was murdered. Albright."
"Richard. Richard was his name," Kyra answered, "Did you ever meet someone truly good, MacLeod? Richie? Someone who didn't want money or power or glory? Somebody beyond temptation and corruption?"
"Tori was truly good," Richie answered, "She was one of the best."
"I can imagine," Kyra nodded before she asked, "Was she your wife?"
"Yes," Richie answered, "Tori was my wife."
"You were his bodyguard," Duncan stated, regarding Richard.
"I did a hell of a job, didn't I?" Kyra asked.
"And there's more?" Richie asked in turn.
"That's how it started. God, I loved him," Kyra explained, "Richard believed. Believed like- like nobody I've ever met before. Justice, compassion – they were his gods. Being with him was like being inside a warm, bright light. For ten years. I wanted it never to stop, and then, somebody stopped it. Do you know what that feels like?"
"Yeah, I do," Duncan answered.
"So do I," Richie chimed in.
"MacLeod, if I don't come back from this, and you run into Vladic and or Callestina….." Kyra started to say.
"About that," Duncan answered, "That is why Richie is coming with you to deal with Vladic and Callestina."
"Him?" Kyra glanced at Richie.
"Me?" Richie chimed in turn.
"You two seemed like you had a bit of a bonding adventure last night," Duncan elaborated, "and besides, there will be two immortals for the both of you. In case one takes one head and…"
"All right," Kyra nodded, "I get the idea."
-The-Space-Between-
Kyra peeked over edge of roof at the two men who were on guard.
The first man looked over edge of roof at ground below, and continued patrolling.
Kyra climbed onto the roof, stealthily crosses roof. The first man saw a 100 Franc bill lying on roof, leaned over to pick it up.
Richie kicked him down, and knocked him out. The other man went towards the noise as Richie dragged the first man out of sight.
The second man fired his gun blindly across roof. He saw a hand reaching up, fired gun again and killed the first man, causing the second man to yell in frustration.
"Nice shooting," Kyra stated as she came up behind him, pointing the gun at the back of his neck.
"What?" the man replied, startled.
"But then you like it when they can't get away, don't you?" Kyra noted.
"Oh, yes. Especially when they're judges. It's so much better," the second man replied.
"Move!" Kyra exclaimed before she walked him across the roof at gunpoint.
"Wait. Wait!" the man shouted before Kyra pushed him toward the edge of roof. He turned, kicked the gun from her hand. She then grabbed his leg, and then pushed him over edge of roof, "Ah, wait."
The man found himself hanging from edge of roof, "Wait!"
"Are you sorry?" Kyra asked.
"What?"
"Are you sorry for what you've done?"
"Sorry is for a woman, children and sheep," the man retorted before he spat and then said, "I sorry for nothing."
"Then I won't be either," Kyra declared.
"Wait, what are you doing?" the man asked before Kyra hit him with the butt of gun, knocking him off the roof.
Richie appeared next to Kyra moments later, "Well?"
"So far, so good," Kyra nodded, "but remember the deal."
"I know," Richie replied, "I know. Vladic's yours, Callestina is mine."
"Exactly!" Kyra snapped her fingers.
-The-Space-Between-
"This isn't good," Callestina stated as they heard the noise from outside.
Vladic called into the walkie talkie, "Zep?"
There was only static.
"Zep?" Vladic called out again.
Again, there was only static.
"Tovick, report," Vladic called into the walkie-talkie.
"I'm sorry, but all scumbags are currently unavailable," Kyra's voice announced on the walkie-talkie.
"Where in hell are you?" Vladic demanded.
"Imagine, a big general like you, a real war hero, and those two are the best you could come up with?" Kyra asked. Then, Vladic and Callestina both sensed the buzz. Kyra laughs on walkie-talkie, "There's no one home, Vladic. You're lost. You're alone with your gal pal, but don't worry. Someone's here for her as well."
-The-Space-Between-
Kyra enters room, with Richie in tow as she asked, "How does it feel?"
Vladic lunged for the gun on table. She knocked it away with her sword.
"No more guns. No more psychopaths to do your dirty work. Just you and me," Kyra declared.
"And I'll take on the girl," Richie stated as he stood face to face with Callestina as he drawn out his sword.
"I accept your challenge," Callestina replied, drawing out her sword.
"You had your chance. Your courts, your judges. No one had the will or strength to stop me," Vladic declared, "Vladic is still here, and so is Callestina."
"Yes, that was my big mistake, but I'm here to fix that," Kyra replied before she eyed Richie, "and luckily I have some help here."
"Your mistake was coming here. A woman trying to do a soldier's job," Vladic retorted.
Richie scoffed, "You'd be amazed at the many women out there who are soldiers."
"And is that what you call yourself?" Kyra asked in turn.
The double swordfight began.
Richie punched Callestina, kicked her in the gut. She rallied. He kicked her again, then sliced her arm, knocked her to her knees, and then held his sword at her neck.
"Looks like you're going to be joining your beloved Grayson here in a second," Richie declared before he took Callestina's head.
Kyra punched Vladic, kicked him in the gut. He rallied. She kicked him again, then sliced his arm, knocked him to his knees, and then held her sword at his neck.
"I was a soldier for a thousand years. You're no soldier. You're a butcher," Kyra declared before she beheaded him.
With that, a double quickening commenced as both Richie and Kyra took the quickenings of their fallen opponents.
-The-Space-Between-
"Kyra?"
Kyra gasped as she sat up and then came to, seeing Richie in front of her. He was looking at her with concern and worry.
"Kyra, thank God," Richie sighed with relief, "I thought I'd lost another friend."
He hugged her with relief.
"Easy there," Kyra replied, "Easy. There was no way I was going down that easily. What happened?"
"A double quickening happened," Richie answered, "It created a massive explosion and destroyed the entire room."
"Whoa," Kyra muttered, "We created a hell of an explosion with that quickening, didn't we?"
Richie nodded, "We sure did."
"We should get going," Kyra suggested.
"Yeah," Richie nodded in agreement, "We should."
-The-Space-Between-
"It's good to see you guys in one piece," Duncan stated as he noticed Richie and Kyra arriving at the area.
"It wasn't even that hard," Richie replied, "I'm glad we came through it in one piece."
"It wasn't the justice Richard believed in, but it was justice. It'll have to do," Kyra then replied.
"What about the police?" Duncan asked Kyra, "They'll still want you for questioning."
"I'll keep moving, keep looking around," Kyra answered, "There's always someone who needs protection. You know how it is."
"Kyra, if you ever need anything you need from either of us….." Richie started to say.
"Thanks, but the lady can take care of herself," Kyra assured the two men before she kissed both of them on the cheek.
"I remember," Duncan replied.
"So do I," Kyra stated, "and don't even think about asking me to date Richie."
"She's right, Mac," Richie nodded in agreement.
"I never said anything about it," Duncan replied.
"I'm just saying," Kyra told him, "We both lost a lover of ours, and given how he is acting, it's going to take a long time for Richie to heal from his loss."
"You have no idea," Richie muttered.
"Quite right," Duncan nodded.

Author's Note:
This was quite interesting to write. Of all the girls of Season 6, Kyra was my second favorite, only to Katherine, who is up next, but not with Bartholomew, but with helping her student Kristina Graf against her former team the Skyband. That's going to be interesting to mash up with.
Just looked up the guy who played the doctor (Jocko) in the beginning of this episode, who also played Luther in the Season 2 episode "Legacy," which I found to be interesting.
