Defenders of the Earth: This Is Their Side Story
By James
Chapter 38: Mother and Daughter
Earth H
She couldn't believe that they'd pulled it off. She and Hadea now ruled the world. Jedda once helped to defend the Earth. Now she was actually leading it.
She leaned backward in Hadea's arms, eyes on a pane overlooking the town. Castles now stood with the buildings below. Palaces dotted the concrete roads.
Her Necklace of Oros had changed so much, just as both she and Hadea had wished.
This wasn't tyranny. They weren't like Ming. They hadn't been driven by power and greed, nor were they stealing the resources. The old world was edging toward the point of collapse, ruined by pollution and politics. Thus they'd endeavored to save the Earth, which meant instituting new leadership.
After they'd announced what they'd had in mind, and proven that they had the power to succeed, many governments tried to counter them. Army after army was deployed their way, each converging on their castle home. The planes were first. The tanks came next. Hadea warped them all to the depths of space, leaving the pilots on the Earth below, where they were deterred by the Netherworld teams. The necklace also zapped all their weapons away, ridding the world of explosives too.
Within five weeks — perhaps it was four — the necklace disarmed all the soldiers of Earth, leaving them with little but their clubs and sticks. Some troops tried to be aggressive with those. Jedda used telepathy to turn them away. Rebel police were subdued as well.
Hadea brought Netherworld laws above, spreading prosperity throughout the world. Rebels emerged every month or so. Most were too proud to accept the change, despite all the obvious benefits. Ultimately, the rebels converged into four main groups. Hadea's troops managed to disband them all. They seemed unwilling to unite again, dreading the Necklace of Oros's strength. After a year, the combat stopped, a rebel leader kneeling to the princess and queen.
And here they were, now mother and daughter, eyeing their beautiful world with pride.
Jedda made a sigh in Hadea's embrace, decked out in elegant princess garb.
Jedda was grateful to have this woman, pleased the Defenders gave Hadea a chance, glad they could see what she'd done for the world.
Things were good — for now at least. There had to be challenges awaiting them. Ming might attempt to invade again. Damian Dark could be back as well. But Jedda wasn't worried about those threats, or any of the others that could come their way. She and her mother were ready for those. They'd face them down like they'd faced the rest — with cunning, courage, care, and love.
Smiling calmly, she glanced upward. "I love you, Mother."
Hadea kissed her head. "I love you too."
