Chapter 98: Bond
Jedda walked through the halls of a royal mansion, finding something to admire everywhere she turned. The floors were made of glittering marble. The walls were composed of shining gold. As beautiful as the interiors were, however, it was the sight outside that had impressed her most.
She stepped over to an elegant window, seeing the incredible jungle that surrounded the home.
Krotan entered the room and walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"So this is to be our home once we're done ruling Mongo." Jedda smiled. "And you happened to pick one located here. What gave you the idea that I'd like it?"
Krotan hugged her. "Lucky guess." He looked out at the trees for a minute, then noticed Jedda's silence. "What are you thinking of?"
"I remember a day in a village back on Earth — a village where this cute little girl named Jedda once lived." She flashed a teasing smile. "I remember her waking up in a tree hut, looking out at the jungle, and wondering what she was going to do with her life. If someone had told her that she'd leave the planet, find love, and become the queen of another world...she wouldn't have believed it." Jedda shook her head in awe. "But here I am."
Krotan raised his stare to the clouds. "Unlike you, I always expected that I was going to be ruler of Mongo, but I wanted that for all the wrong reasons." He stood before her and took her hands in his. "I don't know what more to say, Jedda, other than...thank you." Krotan smiled. "Thank you for showing me that rulership shouldn't be about hatred, but love. Thank you for giving me two wonderful children. Thank you for putting up with me when I snore."
Jedda giggled.
"Thank you for choosing me, when there was another man in your life." Krotan's gaze softened. "Thank you for letting me love you, and for loving me back."
Jedda beamed while staring at him. No one had ever made her feel as special as Krotan did. Chances were, no one ever would. She wasn't the kind of person who lived for adulation, but the things he said were so utterly sweet.
Some people still couldn't believe that she and Krotan were married. They weren't angry about it, but they found it surprising. Some wondered whether they'd really be together for good, but Mongo's royal couple had no doubts.
"I should thank you too, Krotan." Jedda moved closer to him. "For being my lover. For being my friend. For making me as happy as you do." Jedda grinned. "When I was younger, I spent a lot of time questioning what path I should be on, but I don't have to do that anymore. I belong with you and our children, here on Mongo." A ray of sunlight swept over her face. "This is my destiny. This is my dynasty."
