Defenders Chronicles: Highlander

Chapter Thirteen: Vendetta

Chelsey walked over to a bar in Seattle. She walked inside the entrance and prepared for a good time.

"Slammin rock music," Chelsey noted, donning her Brooklyn accent, "nice club in general. My kind of party. Let's do this."

She started dancing to the music, interacting with anyone who stood in her path. This lasted for a bit until she came across a cute looking guy.

"Heya, gorgeous," Chelsey greeted the random guy. He smiled in response.

"Excuse me!" a woman shouted from behind her.

"All right," Chelsey replied with a smirk, "you're excused."

The girl pulled Chelsey off the guy she was dancing with, shouting, "That's my boyfriend!"

"Really?" Chelsey grinned, "I don't see your name on him."

"Jacob, do something!" the woman demanded.

"Yeah, Jacob," Chelsey retorted, "do something like this."

She swung a punch at the girl, and knocked her to the ground. Moments later, Jacob swung a punch at Chelsey, but he missed and she knocked him to the floor.

Chelsey continued dancing like she didn't have a care in the world, beating down anyone who crossed her path, including Jacob, who approached her in the second encounter.

"That Gregor sounds like he was out of his mind," Tori stated.

"Well," Richie replied, "he's not here anymore, so you don't have to worry about it."

"Well, that's one less thing to worry about. Seriously, you could have gotten yourself killed with that guy!" Tori chastised.

"Tori, I'm a big boy!" Richie protested, "I can handle myself."

"I get that," Tori replied, "I never said you couldn't, but sometimes, you can be reckless."

Richie rolled his eyes.

"She's not wrong there," Duncan replied as he entered the room, "you need to be careful who you hang out with."

Tori was startled upon the phone ringing. She picked up the phone and answered it, "Hello? Mom? What do you mean? One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? You mean...you've gotta be kidding me. We'll be on a look out. Thanks, love you too."

She hung up. Duncan and Richie looked on in surprise.

"What was all that about?" Richie asked just as Tessa entered the room.

"Mom just informed me that an old schoolmate is coming to town," Tori answered.

"So, you'll be having an old school reunion of some sort?" Tessa asked.

"Not the good kind, if that's what you mean," Tori answered, shaking her head, "she was my former friend, Chelsey Brooks. She caused problems with me growing up after originally being one of the only few kids who didn't shun me for being a genius, and all."

"What kind of problems?" Duncan asked.

"She made a hit list, for starters," Tori explained, "and she tried to put the blame on me, saying I helped her with the list. No one bought her claim as I refused to take the fall for her bull. She had done other stuff as well, including stealing a very expensive pillow my aunt Dale bought me when I was a girl. She tried throwing me under the bus any chance she got. I had no idea why I remained friends with her. It ended Freshmen year after the hit list incident. Last I heard, she was sent to a psych ward for a second time for threatening her foster parents."

"Second time?!" Duncan, Tessa, and Richie exclaimed in unison.

"She was sent the first time after she threatened self harm at school in the eighth grade," Tori answered.

"She sounds very unhinged," Tessa noted.

"That would be an understatement," Richie quipped, "Why would she come here?"

"I have no idea," Tori answered, "the only reason I'd know is if she somehow figured out where I lived."

"We'll have to look out in that case," Duncan nodded. He seemed to be on edge over something else.

"What's going on with you?" Tori asked.

"I recognized an immortal on television earlier," Duncan answered, "Daniel Howard."

"Daniel Howard, top acting agent?" Tessa asked, also recognizing the name.

"Yes," Duncan answered, "He's been Immortal for over 300 years now. I met him during the early 1930s. He was always a sharp tongue, and used his charm against his opponents, and the pawns of his games."

"Good Lord," Tori quipped.

"Yeah," Duncan nodded, "Dan must have decided to choose careers during the time I last saw him, albeit not too far from the acting field."

"Should we be concerned?" Tessa asked.

"Dan is tricky," Duncan answered, "there is no telling what he might do."

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Dan approached his proposed accomplice. The woman was of African descent, and had a smirk on her face.

"I guess we can go somewhere and talk," Dan suggested to the woman, "Granted, I'm not much of a talker, more a doer, if you know what I mean."

"I think you might have misunderstood my intentions, Mister," she retorted.

"Really now?" Dan crossed his arms, "I have roamed this Earth for 300 years, and you'd be surprised of all the things I've known."

"Like what?"

"Your name: Chelsey Brooks."

Chelsey glanced at him, "Go on."

"As an immortal and an acting agent," Dan continued, "I managed to get a hold of your case file. Boy, you're something else entirely: threatening your classmates, threatening self harm, threatening your foster parents, harassment, assault, battery, theft, you are definitely something."

"Tori Gordon allowed me to take the fall for that list," Chelsey crossed her arms.

"I think I can help you get revenge on her," Dan stated.

"Oh really," Chelsey replied, "and what would that be?"

"I know her ally Duncan MacLeod," Dan explained, "they both reside in a town not too far from here, a little town called Seacouver."

"So, what's your point?"

"We can hurt both of them before taking their heads after we arrive in Seacouver," Dan proposed.

"Take their heads?" Chelsey raised an eyebrow, "isn't that a little extreme for revenge?"

"Let me fill you in on a secret," Dan explained, "the only way an immortal can die is if you sever their head."

"And?"

"Tori is immortal now," Dan continued, "once we figure out a way to lure both your former friend, and Duncan MacLeod into our trap, we'll have their heads, and you'll have your childhood revenge."

"You sound shady," Chelsey replied, "but what the hell, you got yourself a deal. Let's make our way to Seacouver."

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Duncan, Tori, Richie and Tessa entered the local acting agency which Dan was working at.

"So, this is the place?" Richie asked.

"Yep," Tori answered.

"Daniel Howard, Top Agent," Duncan added, "he knows how to slide his way through life."

Duncan and Tori suddenly sensed the Buzz.

"Immortal incoming," Tori stated.

"I know," Duncan nodded.

Suddenly, a man with clean cut brown hair, wearing a typical lawyer suit appeared. He looked over at the group, "Duncan MacLeod?"

Duncan stood up, "Dan Howard."

"Yeah," Dan nodded, "also known as, Daniel Howard, top agent."

"We know that," Duncan replied. Dan suddenly glanced at Tori, "You must be Tori Gordon, niece of the legendary Flash Gordon, right?"

Tori nodded, "Yeah, why?"

Suddenly, Chelsey stepped out of the door, "Hey there, Tori. Long time no see."

"True," Tori glared at her, "but it's not on good terms."

"Feelings mutual."

Seconds later, Chelsey fired a bow at Tori, aiming at her chest, but she blocked it with help from Duncan.

"Whoa," Chelsey stated, "that was so cool."

With that, she turned around and took off. Dan followed suit, "This isn't over yet, Highlander!"

"Was that Chelsey?" Richie asked.

"Very much so," Tori answered.

"She is indeed unhinged," Tessa stated, her eyes widened in surprise.

"Tessa, I want you and Richie to lay low," Duncan instructed his lover and ward, "lock up the store, and stay in the apartment."

"Come on, Mac," Richie protested, "that girl is bad news. If she could fire that arrow at Tori, who knows what she will do to you and Mac."

"Come on, Richie," Tessa held his arm, "just do it."

Richie and Tessa hurried out of the building while Duncan and Tori went to look for Dan and Chelsey.

They managed to find Dan on top of the hotel building with Chelsey by his side.

"Heya," Chelsey smirked, looking at Tori, "Good to see old friends again."

"I wish I could say the feeling was mutual," Tori crossed her arms.

"What are you doing working alongside an Immortal," Duncan asked Chelsey, "a slick talking one at that?"

"I should ask Tori the same thing," Chelsey retorted, "oh yeah, Tori happens to be immortal."

Tori was taken by surprise, "How did you know?"

"You'd be surprise on the stuff he told me," Chelsey smirked. She got out a gun, "I'm afraid neither of you will be getting off that easy. Tori should have fessed up in taking part of that hit list."

"And ruin my family's reputation?" Tori argued, "Ruin my life, or my family's lives, over a false accusation? I don't think so."

"There you go," Chelsey nodded, "Tori's still the same little whelp who only looks after her family."

Duncan and Tori scowled at her in disgust.

"It's not just that, and you know it," Tori assured her.

"Well," Chelsey rolled her eyes before firing her gun and shooting Tori square in the chest twice, "this sure ain't a blank. Let the games begin."

The two leave the room. Duncan looked down as he realized Tori had been killed by that gun shot. She waited for a little bit until she revived, coughing in the process.

"I hate when that happens!" Tori exclaimed, "I may never get used to this."

"I hate when that happens too," Duncan stated, "but it's part of being Immortal unfortunately."

"Where do you think Dan and Chelsey might go?" Tori asked.

Duncan paled, noticing where they might be going, "We need to hurry back. Dan and Chelsey have a head start in whatever plan they have against us."

Tori nodded in agreement before they hurried back to the apartment.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

"Why would Chelsey work with an immortal?" Richie asked.

"Isn't it obvious?" Tessa answered, "Dan told her about immortals. She knows Tori is immortal. Chelsey hates Tori and wants her dead."

"Congratulations," Chelsey exclaimed as she entered the room, "you answered correctly, Miss French Lady."

Richie stood up, ready for anything. Tessa was right behind him.

"I have a little problem," Chelsey stated, "I feel Tori is not in the Game like your average Immortal would be."

Richie scoffed, "Let me guess, from what you've observed from us, right?"

"You guessed right, pretty boy," Chelsey smirked.

"Listen, Chelsey," Tessa pleaded, "it is not too late. You don't have to take this route. Whatever issue you have with Tori, I'm sure she is willing to make amends with you."

"Tess is right," Richie added, "just turn yourself in, and things will get better for you."

Chelsey immediately swung her elbow at the Frenchwoman, knocking her out instantly, "Now, what do you have to say?"

Richie swung a punch and hit Chelsey in the face.

"All righty, pretty boy," she smirked, "good one. Now, it's my turn."

She kicked Richie across the room, and knocked him out with the second blow.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Chelsey sighed as she wrote something on a piece of paper before tossing it on the floor. "You're right. It was easy."

Dan walked into the room, "I told you. Now what?"

"Let's leave the woman," Chelsey answered, "we'll use the kid as bait for Tori and MacLeod."

"As you wish," Dan answered before he picked up Richie in his arms, and they carried him away.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Duncan and Tori hurried into the apartment to find some damages in the wake. They heard a small groan nearby.

"Tessa!" Duncan exclaimed as he hurried to his lover as she was coming to.

"Duncan, she was here," Tessa stated, "Chelsey. She was truly unhinged. We know she has no good reason to do any of this, and she said Tori was not in the game."

"Are you okay?" Tori asked.

"She knocked me out," Tessa answered, "but I think I'll be okay."

Duncan hugged her, comforting her.

"Where's Richie," Tessa asked, "is he okay?"

Tori looked around the room, paling upon realizing what happened, "He's not here."

She glanced down at a piece of paper and picked it up, "I think she has left a challenge for us."

"What does it say?" Duncan asked.

"To Duncan MacLeod," Tori read the note, "if you want to see your little buddy alive again, meet up at the Old Warehouse district. Building B, and bring Tori."

"Will you be all right?" Duncan asked Tessa.

"I think so," Tessa answered, "Go and rescue Richie."

Tori dialed a number, "Mom? Yes, we found Chelsey and she's working with the Immortal Dan Howard. The so called Top acting agent. Get some back up at the old warehouse district. We'll be in Building B. They have Richie hostage too."

Duncan and Tori hurried outside, and to their surprise, Joe was waiting for them outside.

"Joe?" Duncan glanced at the Watcher in surprise.

"What are you doing here?" Tori asked, slightly annoyed.

"I noticed you have an unstable person from your childhood working with an immortal," Joe answered.

"Yeah," Tori answered, "and she has Richie captive. We're on our way to save him before Crazy and Crazier do something to him."

"I doubt they'll do anything to him," Duncan stated before glancing at Joe, "Look, we don't have time for talk right now."

"I understand," Joe replied, "go, and rescue your friend, and good luck."

Duncan and Tori nodded before they hurried to the old warehouse district.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Richie had found himself restrained to a kitchen chair. It wasn't just rope that his wrists and ankles were tied to. Duct tape as well. He was also gagged as well, making it hard for him to speak. It was hard for him to break out of the bondage as well.

Chelsey glanced at him with a smirk on her face. She sat down harshly on his lap, causing Richie to let out a muffled scream.

"This is going to be quite fun here," Chelsey smirked, "tell me, what can we do to pass the time while we wait for Tori and MacLeod to come for you."

Richie only glared at her in anger.

"Yeah," Chelsey stood up from Richie's lap, "you're right. Things are much better when we get an audience participation!"

She removed the gag from Richie who then spit on the floor, "There we go."

"There we go, indeed," Richie retorted, "listen you psychotic bitch, we know you have issues with Tori because she chose not to be dragged down with you for horrible things you did. I seen that you were unhinged. Even if you kill me after you kill Tori, and Mac, there's one thing you must know."

"And what would that be?" Chelsey asked.

"You are a piece of..." Richie started to answer, but she cut him off when she placed the gag back on him, "You should talk."

She chuckled as the gag was now back on him. He tried to struggle through the bondage, but no such luck.

"Save your energy," Chelsey told him, "I secured you to that chair good."

She stroked his face, causing him to flinch.

"You know," she smirked, "I kinda like you. You got that spunk."

Richie wanted to lash out for what Chelsey was doing, from causing Tori mental pain to getting Mac involved, and even hurting Tess.

Chelsey chuckled, "You know something? I'm getting kinda bored. I can think of a few boredom killers right about now."

Richie grunted as he couldn't speak through the gag.

"Don't worry, pretty boy," Chelsey smirked, "I won't do much, and besides, you won't die...yet."

Suddenly, Duncan and Tori arrived at the area with swords in hand.

"I think you need to get away from him," Duncan firmly stated.

"Really, now?" Chelsey smirked as she placed her hands on Richie's nose and mouth to keep him from breathing.

"Richie!" Tori exclaimed in shock before she kicked Chelsey in the chest, knocking her across the room. Richie fell to the floor on his side as a result.

Dan arrived in the room with his sword in tow, and glared at Chelsey as she was standing back up.

"Nice kick, Tori," she stated.

"Remember the plan," Dan told Chelsey, "Tori is yours, MacLeod is mine."

"Of course," Chelsey grabbed a nearby sword. Dan and Duncan hurried to another area of the warehouse district to begin their duel.

"Are you insane?" Tori scoffed, "It's kinda dangerous to fight an immortal."

"Afraid to hurt me?" Chelsey retorted.

Richie watched as Tori and Chelsey were duking it out. He thought the latter was being reckless. It wasn't a good idea for a mortal to fight an immortal in such manner. This couldn't end well.

He noticed a steak knife close to him. It must have been one of the boredom killers Chelsey was implying. Richie scooted the chair to where he can reach the knife and try to break out of his bondage. He couldn't let Tori get killed, or Chelsey do anything reckless to get herself hurt, or killed.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Dan and Duncan were dueling, glancing at one another to try to take their opponent's head.

"It's been ages," Duncan stated, "hasn't it?"

"I underestimated you last time," Dan replied, "but that won't happen again."

Another sword blows took place. Duncan observed that even after all this time, Dan was still arrogant, even with his fighting skills, just like before.

"You have been around for 300 years," Duncan stated, "but you still have that arrogance you had the last time I met you."

During the fight, Duncan caught Dan off guard and eventually took his head.

Duncan stood up as he was taking Dan's Quickening. He felt the lighting bolts surge through him as he took the Quickening.

Duncan looked up as he had become victorious in the battle.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Tori and Chelsey were duking it out with swords, but the former had experience with using swords by now, while the latter knew very little on how to deal with swords.

"Chelsey, come on," Tori glanced at her former friend, "it doesn't have to be like this."

"Yeah," Chelsey replied, "it has to be exactly this."

"You should come off the statement that I did you wrong," Tori insisted, "you did that yourself when you made that list, and you tried to make me take the fall with you. I wasn't about to lie and risk everything, even if we were friends."

Chelsey swung more blows, which Tori managed to block each time.

"What is wrong with you anyway?" Tori asked, "Why do you have such a vendetta against me, and I know it's not just the list incident."

"Isn't it obvious?" Chelsey answered, "you had the life I dreamed about. You have a loving family, a solid amount of friends, you're a freaking genius. I, on the other hand, had to deal with neglectful parents, a bully for an older sister, and I had to go to foster care during middle school because of my parents."

"I'm sorry for what you had to go through," Tori said.

"Liar!" Chelsey kicked the tachi from Tori's hands, and held her at sword point, "Now that you're unarmed, I can put my revenge in full swing."

Suddenly, a group of IUA Agents with Janet leading the group barged into the area and held out their guns.

"Freeze!" Janet ordered, "Chelsey Brooks, put your sword down, and put your hands where we can see them!"

Slowly, Chelsey dropped the sword and placed her hands in the air, "Well, looks like your mommy has come to your rescue."

"Why am I not surprised that you resorted to such measures?" Janet stated, "It makes me wonder why my daughter was friends with you to begin with."

"So, what's your point?" Chelsey asked, making a move.

"Stay where you are!" Janet ordered, "if you refuse, we will shoot, and trust me, I do not want to do that!"

Chelsey rolled her eyes and remained in place.

"Take her away," Janet told two of the agents. The two agents placed Chelsey in cuffs, and took her away.

"What's going to happen to her?" Tori asked.

"We will take her to a psychiatric facility that we have provided," Janet answered, "with her crimes she had committed and getting involved with an immortal, Chelsey will not be getting out for a long time, if ever."

"IUA has good prisons," Tori noted, "Chelsey is bound for confinement."

"I informed the authorities, and they will release custody to us," Janet continued, "Man, I'm starting to think Richie is a better friend for you than Chelsey ever was."

Moments later, Richie arrived at the area. Duncan arrived moments later.

"Are you guys okay?" Duncan asked.

"Thanks to Mom," Tori answered.

"I'm fine now too," Richie added, "I found a steak knife and managed to get out of the bondage Chelsey put me in."

"It's good that you are all right, Richard," Janet stated.

"Thanks, leader," Richie replied. Tori smiled and nodded.

"What's the status of the immortal involved with Miss Brooks?" Janet asked.

"Deceased," Duncan answered, "Dan proved to be arrogant, even after the last time we've met."

"Understood," Janet nodded, "I don't think I'll ever get used to this immortal business."

Tori sighed, If only she knew.

She then looked at Richie and gave him a hug, "Thank God you're okay."

"Yeah," Richie replied, accepting the hug, "it'll take a lot more than your crazy ex-friend to bring me down."

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Tori glanced up as she, Richie and Duncan walked into the building. It had been a few days since the ordeal, and the Highlander suggested to take on Martial arts, and introduced Tori and Richie to Desalvo's Martial Arts.

The three managed to enter the gym moments later.

"Great," Richie observed the surroundings of the gym, "Tattoos, triple – x chromosomes everywhere you look...it's like watching a great Kung Fu flick."

"It's Martial Arts, Richie," Tori nodded.

"Yes, it's an art," Duncan added, "it's good for your soul."

"Yeah, well, personally," Richie replied, "I'd rather catch a movie."

"Well, it's a hell of a lot safer," a black man stated when he approached the trio, "that's for damn sure."

"Nice place you got here," Duncan stated.

"It'll do," the man replied, "who sent you?"

"Nobody really," Tori shook her head.

"Nobody," Duncan added, "I just was looking for a place to work out."

"Well, I'd like to help you three out," the man replied, "but this is a private club. Invitation only."

"So invite me," Duncan insisted.

"You look in decent shape," the man replied, "but trust me, you stay around here, maybe all you're gonna do is get your butt kicked."

"Maybe we should talk to the owner," Richie suggested.

"I'm with Richie here," Tori nodded in agreement.

"You're looking at him," the man replied.

"And your name is?" Tori asked.

"Charlie Desalvo," the man introduced himself, "owner of Desalvo's Martial Arts."

"Nice to meet you, Charlie," Tori replied as the two shook hands, "I'm Tori. Tori Gordon."

"Duncan MacLeod."

"Richie Ryan."

Charlie shook hands with the two men as well.

"So, the place is for sale," Richie noted, "Business must be booming, huh?"

"Uh, he always mouth off like that?" Charlie asked.

"Only when he might be right," Tori gave out a small smile.

"I tell you what," Charlie gave the three a proposition, "You pass the initiation, and I'll sign you three up."

Tori nodded with a smirk.

"Cool," Richie replied, "what's the initiation?"

"Not what, Richie, who?" Duncan stated as he took off his jacket, and pulled his hair back into his ponytail, "After you."

Tori took a seat next to Richie as he stated, "A date, man. I knew I should have gone on a date."

She looked on as Duncan and Charlie moved to the wrestling mat, and exchanged a few hand to hand blows.

"You gotta do better than that," Duncan told him.

The pair fight some more. Duncan knocked Charlie down. He got back up, and took off his sweatshirt. The two men fought some more. Tori squinted a bit upon seeing Joe in the corner of the room. The Watcher's presence distracted Duncan, and Charlie flipped him to the mat.

"Hey!" Charlie exclaimed, "Now, that's better."

"If you say so," Duncan stated before he rose back up, and continued the fight, and got Charlie back down again, "Submit."

Charlie held his hands up in defeat, "Can I join now?"

"Anytime," Charlie answered.

"Thanks," Duncan stated before Charlie glanced at Tori, "What about you?"

Tori glanced at him with raised eyebrows, "Me?"

"Don't you have some martial arts skills of your own?" Charlie asked.

"Since you asked," Tori stood up, "I'll show you."

With that, Charlie and Tori dueled as well. To his surprise, Tori handled the fight quite well, and gave some impressive swings, kicks, and punches. After some time, Tori gained the upper hand against Charlie as well.

"Well?" Tori glanced at him. Charlie raised his hands in defeat.

"I gotta tell you, young lady," Charlie stated as Tori helped him up, "you have some impressive fighting skills. Basic Muay Thai?"

"Yeah," Tori nodded, "my aunt trained me, along with others, including my cousin Rick."

"What's your last name?" Charlie asked with curiosity in his voice.

"Gordon, why?" Tori answered.

"She's related to the famous Flash Gordon!" Richie blurted out.

"Is that so?" Charlie replied in surprise.

"That's true," Tori nodded.

Duncan turned around and told the duo, "I'll be right back."

"Okay," Tori nodded.

"Take your time, Mac," Richie nodded.

"Hey, Charlie!" a man shouted from the 2nd floor of the dojo, "There's no hot water again."

"It's still wet, isn't it?" Charlie replied.
