Chapter Fifty-Six: Cruising Storytellers

Tori woke up hearing Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting" playing on the radio. She stirred and looked around, not knowing what to expect. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, and sat up from her eyes.

Tori was startled upon feeling hands touch her shoulders. She glanced over and saw Richie giving her a shoulder massage.

"Good morning, Tori," Richie greeted his girlfriend as he gave her a massage.

"Good morning," Tori smiled, eyeing him, "What's going on with you this morning?"

"Today's the day of the cruise," Richie answered, "It's going to be interesting to find out how we are going to enjoy our double date with Methos and Alexa."

"I'm glad my mom approved of this," Tori said, "She said we are in need of a much needed vacation after the ordeal with the dark quickening."

Richie nodded, "That's real good."

They both sat up from the bed.

"We should be getting ready," Tori suggested.

"Right. That boat doesn't wait for anyone."

They both prepared themselves for the day they would enter the cruise.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Methos sat next to Alexa as they were waiting for their friends.

"Where do you think they could be?" Alexa asked.

"Richie said that they made it here to the state last night," Methos answered, "So, chances are they will be here before the boat takes off."

"I hope so," Alexa smiled as she sighed, taking a deep breath, "Oh man, I look forward to seeing how the Bahamas looks like."

"It's going to be beautiful," Methos told her, "and it's something I feel both Richard and Victoria need as well after what MacLeod put them through."

Methos sighed as he was relieved he was able to tell Alexa the truth that he was immortal. He told her before he left her in Greece before going to help Duncan with the Dark Quickening. It would have eaten him alive if he if she had died not knowing the truth about who he truly was. Adam Pierson was his alias name, but he was Methos, the oldest living immortal, and there are many other immortals out there, including Richie and Tori.

He sensed the Buzz, and looked around.

"What is it?" Alexa asked.

"I am sensing an immortal," Methos answered, "hence, I have the sensation called the buzz."

Alexa nodded, and they looked to see Richie and Tori walked over to them.

"Hello, Me…..Adam," Richie greeted his friends, "Alexa."

He and Tori looked at Alexa awkwardly and then back at Methos.

"Does she know?" Tori asked.

"Yeah," Methos nodded, "I told her about immortals, including myself before I went to help MacLeod with the dark quickening."

"Oh good," Richie sighed with relief.

"I can't wait for this trip," Tori stated, "We never been on a cruise before."

"Yeah," Richie nodded, "We've been in a barge with MacLeod, but not on a cruise to a nice island."

"In case you are wondering," Tori explained, "Richie paid to get his bike parked for the week while we are on this cruise, and it's a miracle that we were able to get our luggage intact."

"How was that possible?" Alexa asked.

"I parked my bike at a parking area when we made it to South Carolina last night," Richie explained, "Then Tori's mother, Leader, provided a vehicle for us and our luggage. Luckily, we didn't have too much luggage, otherwise we'd be in big trouble, right, Tori?"

"Ah, yes," Tori nodded, "big trouble."

"We should be getting on board," Methos suggested, "Our boat takes off in a couple of hours."

"Good idea," Alexa nodded in agreement.

"Let's go," Richie added. The four made their way to the cruise boat.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

After settling on the boat, Richie and Tori met up with Methos and Alexa. Their rooms were next door to one another in case they needed one another. If the beds were made to where they could have the couples sleeping together, they'd all have one room.

They were in Deck 2, and Alexa and Methos were rooming in Room 287 while Richie and Tori were rooming in Room 288.

"What do you think of the rooms?" Methos asked.

"They're very nice," Richie answered, "Thanks for taking us with you guys to this cruise."

"It's no problem," Methos replied, "I felt you guys needed a vacation after the ordeal you two had to go through with the dark quickening."

"Methos told me about it," Alexa spoke up before asking, "What was that like?"

"Mac nearly took my head," Richie answered, "and he said some lewd things to Tori, even grabbing her hair when she tried to defend me."

"I was freaked out," Tori added, "not only with what Mac did to me, but the fact that I almost lost Richie, but he was saved when Joe shot MacLeod, and had us to leave before he revived."

"MacLeod was shot?" Alexa asked. Tori nodded, "Wouldn't he be dead then, like permanently dead?"

"No," Methos shook his head, "the only way an immortal is dead for good is if someone takes our head."

"And our quickening," Richie added.

"Like a dark quickening?" Alexa asked.

"Yeah," Methos answered, "Except a normal quickening doesn't change an immortal's personality. It just gives us more power."

Alexa eyed both Tori and Richie, "When did you first get your quickening and how long have you been immortal?"

"At different times," Tori answered, "I became immortal four years ago."

She took a deep breath before continuing, "I got my first quickening after Richie became immortal and took on this Irish immortal Annie Delvin."

Two Years Ago

Richie found himself face to face with Annie while Tori was at a safe distance from the fight.

"Where's MacLeod?" Annie demanded.

"He's not here," Richie replied, "It's just you and me."

"Good," Annie replied, "Then you saved me a lot of trouble."

"Maybe not," Richie replied as he got out his sword. The two posed for a moment before they began their sword fight. Richie got lowered down the stairs of the lighthouse. Tori looked nervous as she watched the battle.

"Somebody's been teaching you," Annie noted.

"You can learn a lot from television," Richie replied before the sword fight resumed.

"Tommy wasn't afraid to die," Annie stated as she grabbed Richie's face, "Are you?"

"Damn right," Richie answered. She shoved him backwards. He stumbled down the steps below the lighthouse, and she followed. More fighting ensued, "Mostly I'm just pissed."

"So am I!" Annie exclaimed, and the fight continued. Richie scooted back some before he stood back up and the sword fight resumed.

"You're better than I thought," Annie noted.

"I'm not done yet!" Richie exclaimed, pinning her to the railing of the lighthouse.

"Wrong!" Annie replied before pushing him over the railing, and jumped down after him. As the fighting continued, Duncan arrived at the scene and Tori managed to sneak closer to where the fight was, with her tachi in tow.

Annie used her signature blow and Richie counter attacked her, disarmed Annie, and held her at blade point.

"Do it," Annie urged him, "Do it! I would."

Richie readied his sword to swing, but he raised both of his arms and yelled, "Noo!"

"You're a fool, you know," Annie snarled, "I'll come for you."

"Think again."

Suddenly, Annie was beheaded. Richie looked on in shock as her body dropped to the ground. He looked in surprise to see Tori.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Tori stared at Richie as she took Annie's head. He and Duncan looked at her in surprise. She gave an apologetic shrug.

Suddenly, thunder started booming in the area as Richie stood back. Tori held her sword as energy transferred from Annie's body to her own. Then lighting hit Tori. She screamed as she was on her knees, taking Annie's Quickening. The lighting was causing damage around the area, even near the lighthouse as Duncan and Richie looked on.

Tori took a deep breath as the Quickening ended as she was now on her knees.

The Present

"Mac gave me a stern lecture to never take an immortal's head again unless I was the one challenged," Tori told them.

"I heard Annie was bad news," Methos stated, "it's a good thing she was taken care of."

"What about you, Richie?" Alexa asked, "Same question."

"I became immortal two years ago," Richie answered, "it was the same night Tessa died. We were mugged after Mac rescued Tessa from a Hunter, Pallin Wolf."

Two Years Ago

"Don't you dare do anything reckless like that again," Tori told Richie, "you had me worried sick!"

"I just wanted to help," Richie replied.

"The water's under the bridge now," Tessa replied, "let's let it slide, Tori."

"You're right, you know," Tori nodded with a smile.

Richie handed out a jacket, "Tessa."

"Thanks," Tessa replied before putting the jacket back on.

"Let's get out of here," Tori told her friends.

"Yeah," Richie nodded, "let's go."

Suddenly, a young man wearing a jacket a dewrag approached the three, "Nice car. How about a ride?"

"Some other time," Richie declined the offer before looking at the women, "Let's go."

Suddenly, the guy held the three at gunpoint, demanding, "Now! Give me your keys. I want your rings, wallet, necklace! Come on!"

"Okay! Okay!" Tessa exclaimed in fear.

The three complied by giving the mugger what they could give him, including the car keys.

"Come on! Hurry up!" the mugger demanded.

"All right!" Richie exclaimed. Tori was too scared out of her mind to try to fight back. She thought maybe she could have, but it wouldn't do any good. He might hurt her, or worse, hurt Tessa or Richie. She remained calm for the sakes of Tessa and Richie.

"That's all you got?" the mugger demanded, "You got more. Where's her purse?"

"I don't have a purse," Tessa answered, "I swear...only the rings."

"You lying bitch!" the man shouted before shooting Tessa point blank in the torso. She screamed as she fell backwards to the ground.

"No!" Tori cried out in horror.

Then the man shot Richie twice. He screamed before falling backwards to the ground himself.

"No!" Tori yelled this time as she hurried to Richie's side, certain that he was dead too, "No, no."

She barely acknowledged the three shots fired at her before everything faded to black.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Richie gasped, coughed and spasm, as he found himself laying on the ground. This couldn't have been real. That mugger had just shot him, not once, but twice. He had to be dead, or was he?

He slowly sat up, coming to terms over what was happening, "Mac, I'm still alive, and the pain...it's going away."

"Give it another minute," Duncan told him, holding Tessa's lifeless body, "and you'll be fine."

Tori gasped, reviving as well, "I hate when this happens."

She looked over to see Richie was fully alive, "Richie? You..."

"I'm one of you," Richie stated, "I'm an Immortal?"

"You always were," Duncan told him.

"You knew all along, didn't you?" Richie asked.

"Yes," Duncan answered.

"Tessa too...is she..." Richie asked, sounding hopeful.

Tori glanced over at Duncan, who was looking at the love that was laying in his arms, like a crushed dove. He slowly shook his head.

"Mac?" Tori urged this time.

"No," Duncan finally answered.

"Oh no," Tori sobbed before she fell into Richie's arms. Richie comforted her, tears rimming his eyes as well.

The Present

"I never thought I'd run face to face with the killer until recently," Richie spoke up.

"Which Richie was set on getting justice for Tessa," Tori added.

A Few Months Ago

Richie and Tori were at a hot dog stand, enjoying their hot dog.

"This is pretty good," Tori stated as she bit into her hot dog.

"I agree," Richie said as he bit into his hot dog. He looked up as he noticed a familiar face eyeing them.

He felt flashes of him, Tori and Tessa getting mugged.

Richie frowned, noting the guy eyeing him.

"Richie, what's wrong?" Tori asked. She followed his glance and noticed the guy as well. He could tell Tori could remember as well. As the guy walked past them, both Tori and Richie recognized the guy. It was the guy who mugged them as well as Tessa.

"You lying bitch!"

Tessa was dead because of this guy.

"Son of a bitch!" Richie exclaimed as he threw his hot dog before taking off after the guy.

"Richie, wait!" Tori exclaimed, trying to chase after her boyfriend.

The Present

"We later identified the guy as Mark Roszca," Tori spoke up, "and he didn't remember us initially, and his pregnant girlfriend Alicia defended him, before I was able to show him an image of himself that night perfectly matching his present day image when Richie and I eventually confronted him."

A Few Months Ago

"That was me?!" Mark exclaimed in shock, seeing the image of himself at the time of Tessa's death versus now, "My God?! How could I….."

"How could you what?!" Richie exclaimed.

"The Mohawk," Mark answered, "I lost that jacket a year ago…..I did it. I killed her. Oh man. I'm – I'm so sorry."

"So am I," Richie replied before he threw Mark over the railing, but not letting him go.

"Oh please," Mark pleaded as he was hanging onto the railing, "Please…..I'm going to have a kid. I'm supposed to get married."

Richie replied coldly, "So was she."

"Richie, stop!" Tori shouted, "Tessa wouldn't want this!"

Richie looked at her, "What?"

"Tessa wouldn't want you to lose yourself like this," Tori stressed, "I know killing him won't bring Tessa back. Tessa would want us to do what was right."

Richie was hesitant, but he eventually pulling Mark back up.

The Present

Tori sighed, "Jack had the audacity to give us an update on Mark and his girlfriend Alicia after I told him and my mom not to do so."

"What kind of update?" Methos asked.

"He told us they had a stillborn a couple of weeks ago," Richie answered, "I guess the stress of what happened became too much, even after Mark was still alive."

"I feel bad for his girlfriend and the baby to a point," Tori glanced at the group, "but something told me that was called karma for Mark that got him in the end."

"Before I forget," Alexa asked Richie, "When did you get your first Quickening?"

"That was a funny story," Richie answered, "it happened after we met this girl named Laura Daniels. She was on the run after killing her abusive husband in self defense."

"And the person that was after her was an immortal bounty hunter named Mako," Tori added.

Two Years Ago

Richie was running down the streets, holding Laura's hand. They had to escape Mako somehow, but Richie knew this was getting pointless. He suddenly stopped, not knowing what he could do at this point.

"Richie, what are you doing?" Laura asked.

"He's here," Richie answered.

"Where?" Laura looked around, "I don't see him."

"He's close."

"Let's go," Laura tried to pull him.

"No," Richie remained where he stood.

"Richie," Laura protested, "but he'll catch us!"

"If not here," Richie interjected, "somewhere else."

"We can't stay!" Laura exclaimed.

"Laura, we can't run," Richie told her. Before he could do anything else, or do anything, Laura fell backwards, and she ended up getting hit by Mako's car.

"Laura, no!" Richie screamed in anguish. He knelt over to Laura's lifeless body, "No! No, please."

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Tori made a dash to the area, and to her horror she saw Richie crying over Laura's lifeless body. She looked to see Mako had ran her over. He had killed her. As much as she didn't like Laura, she didn't deserve what happened to her, and this made a sixth causality at the hands of Mako, something her mother informed her. She glanced over to see Mako walking over to where Richie was as people were clamoring in worry.

"It wasn't supposed to end like this," Mako told Richie, "All she had to do was give herself up."

Tori felt herself fuming. This man might have been a champion of the law, but he was still Immortal. All bets were off now. She hoped Richie took his head as she saw him talk more, "All right, boy, come on it's over."

Richie rose up, "You son of a bitch!"

He ran at Mako, and shoved him through the window of an empty building. Tori walked over to Laura's lifeless body. Duncan arrived moments later.

"Mako killed her," Tori looked at the Highlander, "He did it on purpose."

Duncan only looked at her before they hurried to look for Richie.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Richie was sword fighting with Mako. He couldn't protect Laura from him, but he sure as hell was going to avenge her by taking this monster's head. He made sure to fight the best that he could.

The two ended up at an isolated room with unopened paint cans and plastic around the walls.

"Richie, be careful!" Tori exclaimed upon finally finding him. She sighed as Richie and Mako continued to duel, "Oh man."

"Richie, back off!" Duncan shouted upon finding the group moments later.

"No, Mac," Richie replied, "He killed her."

"It was an accident," Mako stated as he stood on top of a table, "I was just doing my job."

"Bull," Tori retorted, "If you were really doing your job, you wouldn't have killed Laura the way you did, and allowed the authorities to deal with her. No wonder the IUA is after you."

"It doesn't have to go any further, Richie," Duncan insisted, "Leave it alone."

"Mac," Richie replied, "it's already gone too far."

"He's right," Tori nodded.

Richie swung at Mako, who sliced him across the chest. Richie swung at him again. Mako jumped to avoid the blow, and broke through the top of the table upon landing, becoming trapped.

"Remember, MacLeod," Mako told the Highlander, "all that separates us from the beasts is the law."

He lunged forward with his blade, stabbing at Richie, but Richie swung a final time and beheaded Mako. Duncan looked disappointed while Tori stood there stoic. Richie turned and faced them.

"Mac," Richie called to his teacher, dropping to his knees. Duncan turned around and walked away. Tori remained in position.

Richie felt wind gusting around him. He felt energy go inside him, and he knew this was Mako's Quickening he was taking, "Tori, you might want to stay back."

Tori complied as she backed to a corner of the plastic covered wall.

Then, Richie rose up and left lighting hit his body. He screamed as he took his first Quickening.

Tori watched as different paint cans burst open, revealing different colors splatting different parts of the room.

Richie dropped to his knees and dropped backwards, still on his knees, after the Quickening ended. Tori walked over to him.

"Are you okay?" Tori asked.

"I took his Quickening," Richie answered as he started to rise back up.

"Yeah," Tori nodded, "you did."

She touched his shoulders and soothed him gently.

"What about Mac?" Richie asked.

"I'll go talk to him," Tori answered, "but I can't promise anything."

The Present

"That was when we had to part ways with MacLeod for awhile," Richie spoke up as the group was having dinner at the top deck, "in which we had an adventure with the IUA and then the Defenders."

"I felt bad for Richie because he did like Laura, even if I didn't like her," Tori chimed in, "I had a gut feeling about her, which to some extent turned out to be right, albeit, Laura wasn't as bad as I thought."

"She killed her husband in self defense," Methos inquired.

"Correct," Tori nodded.

"It wouldn't be the first time Tori had a gut feeling about a female friend of mine," Richie spoke up.

"What do you mean by that?" Alexa asked.

"It's a heck of a story," Richie answered.

"We got plenty of time," Methos replied as he sat back at his seat, accidently leaning on a nearby woman who was eating her dinner.

"Hey, watch it!" a woman shouted.

"Sorry," Methos apologized as he sat up properly, causing Alexa to laugh.

Three Years Ago

"There you are, monsieur," the waiter sat down a large platter of shrimp and oysters, "Bon appetit."

"Whoa," Richie replied, seeing the food, "What's this?"

"It's what you ordered, monsieur," the waiter answered.

"Ah, no, no, no," Richie replied, "I think you've got the wrong guy. I ordered fruit salad."

"No, um, Richie," Tori spoke up, "You did order this. I tried to tell you, but you wouldn't listen to me."

"Thank you, madame," the waiter nodded, "You did order this, monsieur."

"No, no, no, I didn't," Richie objected, "I ordered fruit. You know, like bananas, apples, oranges – that sort of thing."

"Monsieur, we do not serve fruit," the waiter told him, "If you want fruit, go to California."

"Okay, okay, just," Richie reached for the menu, "just excuse me for one moment here, sir. Now just pardon me."

He pointed at an item on the menu, "This is what I ordered, right there. You see that? Fruits de mer."

"Oh boy," Tori shook her head, laughing.

"Oui, oui," the waiter replied, "Fruits de mer. Exactement. Bon appetite, monsieur."

He left the area.

"I'm not that good in French," Tori shook her head, "but it's a good thing neither of us are allergic to seafood."

They both noticed a girl laughing nearby.

"Excuse me?" Richie asked, "What's so funny?"

"Um, sorry," the woman replied with a slightly grating French accent answered, "Maybe I should tell you two that in French, 'fruits de mer' means shellfish."

"Noted," Tori quipped, "I am good in French, but I didn't know what that meant. Oh man."

"Maybe in France they should call it whatever it is," Richie chimed in, "Besides, who could eat this stuff anyway?"

"I'll eat the shrimp," Tori answered.

"It's good," the young lady told the duo, "Try it."

"You try it," Richie retorted.

"Yeah," Tori eyed the young woman, not really liking her that much.

"Okay," the young lady moved closer, "Hmm, let's see."

She used the cocktail fork to eat an oyster.

"All right," Richie took an oyster shell and cocktail fork.

"What are you doing?" the young lady asked.

"Just checking to make sure it's still alive," Richie answered, "Don't hate me for this, okay?"

He ate an oyster. Tori followed suit.

"Good, huh?" the young lady asked.

"Wonderful," Richie answered. He made a face as Tori looked away and used her napkin to spit out her bite, "You want some more?"

"Sure," the young lady accepted the offer. Richie handed her the fork, "Help yourself."

"Thanks," the young woman replied before introducing herself, "My name is Maya."

"Hi, Maya," Richie introduced himself, "My name is Richie."

"And my name is Tori," Tori eyed the pair.

"Her family is well known," Richie eyed Tori, "Tori is related to the famous Flash Gordon."

"Wow," Maya replied before she asked, "You two are American, aren't you?"

"Yeah, we are," Tori answered.

Richie laughed, "Yes, I, uh, I guess that would be fairly obvious, and you are….."

"Late for a meeting," Maya answered, "It was nice meeting you two."

She left the restaurant.

"Yeah," Richie replied, "Maybe in my next life."

"You're better off without her, Rich," Tori said as she had completely left the resturant, "She's not that pretty."

Richie was surprised at her attitude towards Maya, "Why are you saying that?"

"I'm being honest," Tori answered, "Besides, there's just something about her I just don't like."

"Jealous?" Richie asked.

"Yeah right!" Tori exclaimed.

"I decided to let it go after I didn't really want Maya to know about my family," Tori stated, "Later that day, MacLeod took us to a fashion show. That was where we would meet his friend and enemy the IUA was after Gabriel Piton."

Duncan, Tessa, Richie and Tori were watching the fashion show as the Fine Young Cannibals song "She Drives Me Crazy" was playing.

"It's wonderful!" Tessa exclaimed as the group looked around, "I can't believe you managed to get us backstage passes."

"Me either," Richie added.

"I'm here out of obligation to the IUA," Tori stated, crossing her arms, "Mom knows I hate this kind of industry but I'm here for Mac."

"Thanks," Duncan replied, "It's really courtesy of an old friend that I have. Figured you guys would like it."

"Eh," Tori stated, "Like I said, I am on assignment."

Richie was surveying the room full of models, "Yeah. I like it a lot."

Tori rolled her eyes, Typical of Richie.

The group watch the activity as the song continued.

Tori looked on annoyed as Richie watched Maya in a frilly white dress walking out onto the runway. Richie saw her and followed.

"You've gotta be kidding me," Tori muttered.

"Excuse me," the handman stopped Richie from going any further. Tori huffed, fuming, knowing that was Maya.

Richie pulled his head back from the curtain and faced Duncan, Tessa and Tori, "I know her."

"I already know," Tori replied, "and she's not that pretty."

"That's not very nice," Tessa replied.

"Well, she's not," Tori rolled her eyes.

"Tori and I met her in a cafe," Richie told Duncan and Tessa.

The four looked on as the immortal enemy Piton was walking over to the stage and kissed Maya on the cheek while he greeted the audience.

Tori sent a text: Spotted Gabriel Piton. He's at the fashion show as suspected.

She took a deep breath as Piton greeted Duncan and Tessa, "Duncan MacLeod, you got my invitation."

Duncan shook his friend's hand, "Yeah, I did. This is Tessa."

Tessa shook Piton's hand, "Nice to meet you."

"Hello, Maya," Richie greeted his friend.

"Maya," Tori nodded respectfully.

"Hello, Richie, Tori," Maya replied, "I didn't know you were into fashion."

"You were fantastic…...stupendous…..incredible," Richie complimented her.

"You did a good job," Tori nodded.

"She's right, you were wonderful," Tessa added with more enthusiasm in her voice, "I'm Tessa and this is Duncan."

"Hi," Duncan shook Maya's hand.

"Oh, yeah, sorry," Richie apologized before offering, "Uh, listen, can I buy you a champagne or something?"

"Sure, but it's free," Maya answered.

"Then, great," Richie replied, "I'll buy you two."

"While Tori had her suspicions on Maya," Richie said, "I had my own suspicions on one Gabriel Piton, even though he was a friend of MacLeod's."

"Some of MacLeod's friends aren't what they seemed," Methos replied.

"I just got a very, very suspicious feeling about this Piton character from the first second I laid my eyes on him," Richie told the group.

"You mean the second you saw him lay eyes on Maya," Tessa inquired.

"That's creepy if you want my opinion on that matter," Tori spoke up, "and besides, the IUA has Piton on their list of immortals they are after."

"How can that be?" Duncan interjected, "Piton and I have been friends for a long time."

"Yeah, well, you're the one who said the guy's a thief," Richie replied.

"So what are you driving at?" Duncan asked.

"Piton is suspected of murder," Tori answered, "that is what the IUA files said. Do you know anything, MacLeod?"

"If he's a murderer," Richie spoke up, "then that would be a real reason to be concerned. I just can't put my finger on it at the moment. I just don't trust him."

"Richie, he's an immortal," Duncan stressed, "He's not somebody you want to tick off."

Tori got a text from her mother: Remain on standby and we'll let you know when it's time to act.

"I tried to get information from Maya about Cynthia," Richie told Methos and Alexa, "but she wasn't able to get me anything until she shown me an earring that would be a clue for me, and for the IUA."

Maya tossed an earring onto the table, "I found it last night at Piton's apartment. It was Cynthia's."

"Yeah, and?" Tori asked, noticing Maya looking as if she didn't want to be here.

"She was wearing the other one when she died," Maya answered, "She got them for her birthday. The police asked me about it."

"I knew it!" Richie exclaimed, "So now we know Piton was with her the night she died."

"But he told the police he did not see her," Maya told them, "Why would he lie?"

"You'd be surprised on how the big names in the modeling agencies really are, sweetheart," Tori quipped before she took a picture of the earring, "I'll send the clue to headquarters in case they get a lead."

"You know why, Maya," Richie insisted, "You've got to take it to the police."

"But what if it's nothing?" Maya asked before she stressed, "If I go to the police and they question Piton, my career is finished. Don't you see? This is my chance."

"I know, but Maya," Richie replied, "if he did waste her, then you're just protecting him, and where does that leave you?"

"But it's just an earring," Tori stated.

"You're right," Richie replied, "It's not enough."

"Maya, can I have a private talk with Richie?" Tori asked.

"Sure," Maya nodded before she stood up and left, "I better go."

Tori took a deep breath and asked, "Something tells me she cares more about protecting Piton and her career than you or this investigation."

"That was kind of rude of you, Tori!" Richie exclaimed.

"Rude?! Me?! Merde de taureau!" Tori replied before telling him, "If she really cared, she would tell us the whole truth, and I can tell she's not telling us the whole truth!"

"Ever since Maya shown up, you've been nothing but cold and distant towards her," Richie stated before he asked, "Could it be that you're a little jealous, Tori?"

"What?!" Tori exclaimed, "Now you're being ridiculous!"

"I'll admit I overstepped things a bit and I had been hard on Maya the whole time, but Richie did himself no favors when he confronted Piton himself and set him on fire," Tori stated, "and MacLeod gave him a good lecture on that, and I agreed since that was pretty reckless, but Richie was determined to keep Maya safe from Piton, even if I thought he was wasting his time with her."

Tori watched as Richie was wandering around the barge. He picked up Duncan's katana, swung it around a few times and took a stance with it.

"I'm Duncan MacLeod of the clan MacLeod," Richie imitated Duncan before he raised the sword to a blocking position, now doing another imitation, "I am Connor MacLeod. Same clan, different vintage."

He swung the sword around a bit more before he declared, "And I'm Richie Ryan, of the Clan O' Ryan."

Tori chuckled, "Clan O' Ryan?"

"Trying to keep the rhythm going," Richie replied.

Duncan spoke up, "No one's ever beheaded themselves before, but you might make history."

"He has a point you know," Tori chimed in.

"I was just getting the feel of it," Richie replied.

"Sure," Duncan asked, "How is it?"

"It's good," Richie answered, "It's good. I think I could really get the hang of it if somebody was to teach me."

"Mac?" Tori glanced at Duncan.

"Not a chance," Duncan replied.

"Oh, come on," Richie insisted, "You're the one who's always telling me I need to know how to defend myself, right?"

"Right," Duncan affirmed, "I'll just give you a quick lesson and off you go."

"Good."

"Give me that," Duncan instructed as he took the katana from Richie, "You know how to fight an immortal?"

Richie thought of that, "With your wits and cunning."

Duncan was serious, "You take out your gun and you shoot him in the chest. Then you shoot him again, and again, and when he rises….."

"I shoot him again," Richie finished.

"No, you run like hell," Tori spoke up.

"Exactly," Duncan nodded.

"Piton ended up setting up Richie," Tori stated, "He told Richie to come to the studio alone, and he did, which got him arrested."

"Where is she?" Richie asked.

"What are you talking about?" Piton interjected, playing dumb.

"Where's Maya?" Richie pulled out a gun and pointed at his opponent.

"Richie, what are you doing?" Maya asked as she entered the room.

An officer appeared behind Richie, "Is this the one?"

"That's the man," Piton answered, "He's the one that broke into my apartment and threatened to kill me."

"What are you doing?" Richie asked as the police appeared and grabbed him, "What are you doing? He's the murderer!"

"You're under arrest," one of the officers told him.

"He's the one who murdered that girl!" Richie shouted as the police were dragging him away, "Maya, tell him about the earring! Cynthia was at his apartment the night she died! Tell him! You son of a bitch, you're going to pay for this!"

"Tess and I were informed that Richie was in jail and he had to be stuck there because of that bimbo," Tori stated, "As jail rules in France are different than in the United States, but as Mac said, at least he's alive."

Tori, Duncan and Tessa were led to the holding cell were Richie was at.

"It's about time," Richie stood up and faced his friends, "Have you paid the bail?"

"Bail?" the lawyer asked, "What is bail?"

"In case you've forgotten, Richie, this is France," Duncan inquired him.

"Eventually, the judge will see you, monsieur," the lawyer explained, "and he will then decide if you must remain in jail until your trial."

"Okay, fine," Richie replied, "Let's go see the judge."

"I'm afraid that's impossible."

"Why is that impossible?" Tori asked, as she was getting mad now. She was hating on not only Maya, but Piton as well, and she should've probably been hating on the latter long before she hated on the former.

"Ah, because the judge is on vacation," the lawyer answered, "but fortunately, he will be back tomorrow."

"Tori?" Richie eyed his friend. Tori sighed, clearly fuming and shaking with anger.

"Tessa?" Richie eyed her this time. She looked at him, wishing she could do something about this.

"Duncan!" Richie eyed him. He looked stoic.

"I'm afraid there's nothing we can do," Tessa told him.

"Don't worry, Richie," Duncan assured his friend, "The chef's probably French."

Tori scoffed, "Oh, that's reassuring."

"You can't leave me here," Richie stressed.

"All things considered, it's probably safer," Duncan told him.

"And what about Piton?" Tori asked.

"Piton let you off easy," Duncan answered, "Richie here could be dead."

"It's Maya who's going to be dead!" Richie stressed.

"What do you mean?" Tessa asked.

"I wish he would kill that bimbo," Tori muttered to where luckily no one heard her.

"She's with Piton," Richie answered, "He knows she found the earring."

"As heartless as this sounds," Tori stated, "I wish MacLeod had just let Piton kill Maya."

"That does sound heartless," Alexa replied.

"Yet, MacLeod came to Maya's rescue," Tori added.

"I will always remember how beautiful you were," Piton declared before he raised his sword to kill Maya.

"Noooo!" Maya screamed in horror.

Piton sensed the buzz and he saw Duncan appearing above them, and he jumped down to their level.

"Quite an entrance," Piton stated, "You always had a flair for the dramatic."

"Maya, get out," Duncan instructed, "Tessa's waiting in the car."

While Mac took care of Piton, I took matters in my own hands when it came to Maya.

"I kept quiet all this time," Tori eyed Maya, "but I'm not keeping quiet now!"

"What are you doing, Tori?" Jack asked.

"It's your fault Richie is in jail," Tori eyed Maya, "If you had just cooperated and helped with our investigation, Richie wouldn't be in jail right now!"

Tori and Maya's argument escalated to where Tessa and Jack have had enough.

"You know what?!" Tessa exclaimed, "You two need to knock it off! You two, head outside and work it out! Talk it out! Go on! This has gone on long enough!"

"Thank you!" Jack exclaimed, "This is getting ridiculous!"

"Go ahead," Tessa told Tori and Maya as they walked outside the barge, "Work it out."

"Why do you have it out for me?!" Maya asked, "You had it out for me since we've met!"

"For good reason," Tori answered, "I know people like you have a deeper personality. I hate to do this."

"What do you mean?" Maya asked, confused.

Tori got out the truth telling serum she snuck from Jack's bag a couple of days prior, "This is going to sting for a second but you're going to have to trust me."

"What….." Maya started to ask before Tori injected her with the serum.

"Look, we came off at the wrong foot this week," Tori said as she got out her tape recorder, "but I think you should be honest here."

"Sure," Maya nodded, feeling the need to be honest, "I would love to tell the truth."

"How do you feel about this mission," Tori asked, "and how do you feel about Richie?"

"I think everything about this was completely stupid," Maya said as if she was on a rant, "Even if Piton wasn't a murderer, I wanted to save my career, no matter what if all others before me have to die. I don't care about that. I'd even throw an autistic model under the bus, even my own best friend to make it to the top because I want to be the top model."

I knew it, Tori thought, What a bitch.

"As for this mission," Maya continued, "Richie is stupid. He's good for nothing and just trash. I don't think I could ever find myself attracted to a loser like that American boy. I personally think he will never amount to anything in life and I know he will be a convicted felon before he turns 30. I don't know why I think that, but he's nothing to me. He never was. I'd leave him to die if given the opportunity."

Tori and Maya quietly looked at each other for a moment.

"I think I should go," Maya stated.

"Yeah," Tori nodded, "You should."

Maya left the barge, leaving Tori to take some deep breaths to try to calm herself down after she turned off the tape recorder.

"Maya wasn't a true friend after all."

Tori turned to see Tessa.

"You heard the whole thing?" Tori asked.

"Yeah," Tessa answered, "while it was extreme to use whatever serum you used on Maya, but I understand where you're coming from."

"I seriously want to sabotage her career for this," Tori said. Jack made cat sounds in response.

"I know how you feel," Tessa insisted, "and before you ask, I would be furious if some lady said those things about Duncan. I think you need to let it go."

"Luckily, I did," Tori said.

"The next day, things took a turn," Richie explained, "I was released from jail and all charges were dropped after the IUA made their cover on Piton. Still, after Mac took Piton's head it must have been hard on him."

"It always is," Methos replied.

"I'm sorry, Mac," Richie told his friend, "I know he was your friend."

"Things change," Duncan replied. Unaware of the cattiness of the night before, he asked, "How's Maya?"

"She's, uh, fine, I guess," Richie answered, "She, hah, she left for Monte Carlo with a Formula One driver."

"Don't worry, she'll be back," Duncan assured him as he knew the gist of the blow out at the barge.

"You really think so?" Richie asked.

"Nah, not really," Duncan answered, "Just trying to be nice."

The pair shared a laugh and Duncan wrapped his arm around Richie's neck, giving him a bit of a hug.

The Present

"Richie wouldn't know about the truth until shortly after the events with the Hunters and Darius," Tori said.

"What exactly happened to Maya, not that I care after what she said about Richie?" Alexa asked.

"She was killed in an accident in Barcelona," Tori answered.

"How tragic," Methos replied with sarcasm.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

"How did you realized you had feelings for each other?" Alexa asked as they were enjoying themselves on the beach in the Bahamas. They spent the past couple of days enjoying activities on the cruise, and buying souvenirs, enjoying the cruise.

"It happened after I realized I couldn't be with Donna and her son Jeremy," Richie answered, "When Tori and Mac thought Donna was trying to baby trap me."

One Year Ago

"Are you okay?" Richie heard Tori ask as he turned around and faced her.

"I'll be fine," Richie answered, "but they won't be back."

"It's probably for the best," Tori assured him.

"She hates me," Richie stated before asking, "Do you think I did the right thing?"

"Honestly," Tori replied, "it is for the best. The important thing is they are still alive."

"How long have you been standing here?" Richie asked.

"Just a minute," Tori crossed her arms.

"Oh," Richie groaned.

"Look Richie," Tori glanced at him, "I followed you around because I didn't want you to make another mistake."

"Another mistake?" Richie scoffed, annoyed. He didn't really need a lecture after Donna had slapped him.

"You know your history," Tori replied, "I'm not going to bring it up though."

She took a deep breath before saying, "Donna is not right for you. She tried to baby trap you when we both know Immortals can't have children."

"I figured that out over the past 24 hours," Richie replied, "especially with the part that she slapped me."

He took a deep breath before stating, "You're the one who said it's not over till the fat lady sings!"

"True," Tori crossed her arms, "but I didn't really mean it."

"Come on, Tor," Richie glanced at her, "stay on the subject!"

"I will," Tori replied, "I'm just trying to keep you from ending up with Donna because I know without a doubt it would not work out between you two!"

"Give me a break," Richie replied, "You're mixed up trying to peg me for someone I'm not. I am not a Hansel from Hansel and Gretel, I'm not a little kid, hell, I'm far from a kid, and I don't need protection from the wicked witch, and if I want to go to that gingerbread house, that will be up to me to decide!"

"What are you saying?!" Tori demanded.

"You don't trust me," Richie replied, frustrated, "You don't trust my instincts, let alone my judgment!"

"Well," Tori replied, "your judgment hasn't had the best track record for being good judgment."

"So what else is new?" Richie retorted.

"Well, pardon me for trying to keep my best friend from getting hurt," Tori replied, "or doing something irrational!"

"Some friend!" Richie exclaimed, "I don't have room for friends like you, Tori!"

"So, you're saying you don't wanna be friends?" Tori asked.

"No, I don't!" Richie answered.

"Well, good!" Tori replied, "Neither do I!"

Seconds later, she pulled Richie into a loving embrace and she kissed him. Reluctantly, Richie accepted the kiss.

Moments later, Tori and Richie broke apart and look at each other in delight.

"Um..." Tori started to say.

""Um, Tori," Richie stammered before he asked, "why didn't you just tell me you have feelings for me?"

Tori looked around for a bit before answering, "I didn't think you shared the same feelings. Do you?"

"Well, um," Richie looked around for a moment before looking back at Tori, "yeah. Oh, what the hell, let's make it official."

With that, Tori and Richie held each other in a loving embrace and shared a passionate kiss.

"Mac said he'll buy us a drink at Joe's," Tori said during the kiss.

"You think we'd warrant a drink?" Richie asked.

"After all we've been through," Tori answered, "I wouldn't mind a drink myself."

The Present

"Since then," Richie spoke up, holding Tori's hands, "we've been a couple."

Alexa chuckled.

"What is it?" Tori asked.

"It seems every woman Richie interacted with you opposed to," Alexa stated.

"That's not true!" Tori objected.

"It seems that way," Methos stated, sitting next to Alexa, sharing their towel.

"There's Angie," Tori interjected, "After Charlie died, he took me to Seattle and I met Angie. She was a nice person."

"She's a childhood friend," Richie said.

"And then there's Jenny Harris," Tori added in, "She was your musician friend and I liked her."

Three Years Ago

"Hey, listen," Richie told Jenny, "I want to introduce you to some friends of mine."

"Okay," Jenny replied.

Richie walked to the edge of the stage where Tessa, Tori and Duncan were standing, "Tessa, come here. I would like you to meet Jenny."

"Hi," Tessa shook Jenny's hand.

"Hi, nice to meet you," Jenny replied.

"This is Tori Gordon, a good friend of mine," Richie introduced Tori to Jenny next.

"Nice to meet you," Tori shook Jenny's hand.

"Nice to meet you," Jenny replied.

"And this is my old friend, Duncan MacLeod," Richie introduced Duncan to his friend, but Duncan was preoccupied with something else, which Tori was sensing too: the buzz, "Mac?"

Duncan turned to Jenny, still distracted, "Hi."

"MacLeod and us at the IUA were dealing with an unusual immortal," Tori explained, "Something akin to Phantom of the Opera or The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The poor simple minded immortal named Ursa was being used by this jealous woman named Carolyn Lamb. She instructed Ursa to try to kill Jenny. Ursa kidnapped her during a rehearsal."

Richie and Jenny walked down the streets of Paris to the Opera all the way to the rehearsal room.

"Oh, hey, fellas, am I late?" Jenny asked.

"Hi, Jenn."

"Hey, KP, how's it going?" Jenny greeted her bandmate.

"Good," KP answered.

"Good? Okay, well, um…..I'm just going to get my stuff, okay?" Jenny informed everyone before she told Richie, "Alright, so grab a seat. I'll be right back."

Richie leaned against a wall as the band was warming up. Suddenly, they heard Jenny screaming. The band stopped playing and everyone looked around. Jenny screamed again, and Richie ran after her.

"Let go of me!" Jenny shouted, "Help me, somebody!"

"Jenny!" Richie called out as he saw her being carried away by Ursa.

"Richie! Richie!" Jenny yelled before she told the immortal, "Put me down!"

Richie ran towards them, and Ursa knocked him down with his free hand.

"Richie!" he heard Jenny call for him, "Richie! Please! Put me down!"

Duncan and Tori found Richie on the stairs.

"Richie, are you all right?" Duncan asked.

Richie groggily replied, "Yeah, I'm fine."

"Okay," Duncan replied before he continued down the stairs, "Tori, look after Richie."

"Of course," Tori replied as she helped up Richie.

Carolyn came down the basement stairs, "What happened? What happened?"

"He took Jenny," Richie answered as he was holding his head.

"Oh, how terrible," Carolyn replied in a voice that didn't sound genuine of concern. Tori shot Carolyn a disapproving look before helping Richie and the two of them went after Duncan.

"I managed to get a few agents on short notice to help Richie, Mac and myself rescue Jenny from Ursa," Tori explained further, "This led us to the catacombs. It turns out we didn't need to do too much to rescue Jenny."

Duncan, Richie, Tori and a few agents went further down the catacombs to find Jenny.

"We should be closer," Jack stated.

"Do you really have to be dramatic?" Duncan asked.

"It's part of the job to let our fellow agents know how close we are to the location," Tori inquired him.

"Help me, someone!" the group heard Jenny shout from further down the tunnel.

"Jenny," Richie stated quietly before he took off down the tunnel.

"Wait up!" Darren shouted.

"Richie, wait for us!" Duncan added as he, Tori and the other agents followed Richie.

"Jen – Jenny!" Richie called out, "Jenny!"

"Richie?" Jenny replied, noticing his voice.

Richie went to her, "Jenny! Oh!"

He hugged her, "You all right? You okay?"

Jenny cried, "Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine."

"Did he hurt you?" Richie asked.

"No, he didn't," Jenny answered, "He seemed almost as frightened as I was. I don't know why he took me down here."

Richie looked around, "Mac?"

"What?"

"Is he close?" Richie asked.

"No," Duncan answered.

"Well, how do you know?" Jenny asked.

"Well," Duncan answered, "it's a maze down here. He could be anywhere.

He then offered Richie the torch, "Come on, Richie. Find a way out of here."

"Me?" Richie asked.

"You heard the man," Tori answered.

"Go on," Duncan urged further before he handed Richie the torch.

"All right. Let's go," Richie relented and led the others down the tunnel.

"This was a heck of an adventure for all involved," Tori finished, "The IUA and myself found out it was Carolyn behind the drama and manipulation. She tried to get Ursa to kill MacLeod but that backfired, and when she found out, and the IUA tried to take her into custody, she ran into the street and was hit and killed by a passing taxi."

The Present

"So what happened to Ursa?" Alexa asked.

"MacLeod sent him to another monastery," Tori answered, "the Abbey of St. Bernard, whrere he would focus on beauty once again."

"And what happened to Jenny?" Methos asked.

"She's still in her band as far as we know," Richie answered.

"That's good to hear," Alexa replied.

The group enjoyed the sun of the Bahamas. Richie chuckled.

"What's the matter?" Alexa asked.

"If I was in the state I was in a week or so ago," Richie answered, "someone would try to drag me into the water, mistaking me for a whale out of the water."

"Richie, I thought you were going to let that go," Tori declared.

"I am," Richie replied, "It's just that every now and then, I have flashes of the memory."

"What happened?" Alexa asked.

"It's regarding the immortal Sierra Shivers," Methos answered, "Joe told me about her. She made people of Seacouver experience their worst nightmares coming to life."

"And I was obese in my nightmare," Richie added, "I lived how it was if I was obese, and it was everything I feared in my nightmares before the ordeal. Waddling like a penguin, barely being able to fit into Mac's car, as I thought it was going to break down or the engine was going to give out, nearly squishing my girlfriend to death, my pants splitting and chairs breaking among other things."

"Which is why I don't eat unhealthy foods," Alexa replied, "As it results in someone being overweight or obese."

"Everything in moderation," Tori pointed out, "I told Richie I'd love him even if he was obese, and that's true. If he were to be chubby like he was in that nightmare, I'd still love him because it should be the personality that counts."

"I agree with that," Methos said as he hugged Alexa.

"Very true," Richie nodded. The group looked around before Richie spoke up, "We should be heading back before the boat leaves us behind."

"That sounds like a good idea," Methos replied.

"I'm with you," Tori nodded.

"So am I." Alexa grinned. The four packed their small bag and proceeded to hurry back to the ship.

-Defenders-Chronicles-Highlander-

Methos was sitting next to Alexa. He comforted her while she was sitting on her bed.

"How are you enjoying this cruise?" Methos asked.

"It had been wonderful," Alexa answered, "it is going to be a shame that it is going to be over."

"Why don't we just enjoy it while it lasts?" Methos suggested.

"Exactly what I have in mind," Alexa smiled at him, "As I don't have much time left. I wish I did though as I am seeing so much here I haven't seen in my entire life."

Methos kissed her cheek. Alexa gave him a cheek on the cheek back.

"What did you think of my friends Richie and Tori?" Methos asked.

"They were great," Alexa answered, "Although they haven't been immortals as long as you or MacLeod, they were still nice people."

"There are good immortals and there are bad immortals," Methos told her.

"I love you," Alexa told him, "Whether you are Methos, or Adam Pierson."

"I love you as you are," Methos replied, "Alexa Bond."

They shared a kiss.

"I love you too, Adam Pierson," Alexa smiled.

Methos smiled.

Three Weeks Later

Duncan and Methos looked at a gravestone in the Montparnasse cemetery which read:

ALEXA BOND

BELOVED

"She loved Greece," Methos told Duncan, "Santorini especially."

"Well, she would have never have seen it if you hadn't taken her," Duncan replied.

"I think she might've liked to have been buried there," Methos interjected, "but…..I didn't want her to be so far away."

"Come on," Duncan gestured towards him as he prepared to leave, "I'll drive you home."

"You know, I knew Alexa was dying," Methos told Duncan as they were walking together, "Even on the cruise. Every moment we were together, everywhere we went, even on the cruise, I knew, and yet, when she finally closed her eyes, I was surprised."

"You know," Duncan replied, "the Navajo have a saying: The spirit lives as long someone who lives remember you."

Author's Commentary:

"Hello, Me…..Adam," Richie greeted his friends, "Alexa."

He and Tori looked at Alexa awkwardly and then back at Methos.

"Does she know?" Tori asked.

"Yeah," Methos nodded, "I told her about immortals, including myself before I went to help MacLeod with the dark quickening."

"Oh good," Richie sighed with relief.

At some point, Methos revealed to Alexa that he was immortal before she died in the actual Highlander canon, hence, I thought I'd share this in the DCH/Earth N canon. I wish we saw a bit more of Alexa before her death.

This is from one of the previously uncovered episodes "Eye of the Beholder". Even Tori can show a bit of jealousy too. I guess it runs in the family. The interaction between Tori and Richie is a reflection of Rick and Jedda's argument over one of the guys who were men of frost in the episode "Men of Frost." You can watch that on YouTube for reference.

Here we have the other season one episode that hadn't been covered previously "The Beast Below". We show here Tori isn't always jealous of Richie's other female friends, and Jenny was an interesting character to cover while Carolyn was a mean character who had a comeuppance similar to what Rita Luce would have in the Earth N version of "They Also Serve" as you saw in that said chapter.

The last scene here is from the episode "Through a Glass, Darkly" after Alexa had passed away.
