Chapter Seventeen: Closure For Rick and Mercury
Usagi couldn't believe it. The new enemy, Prince Krotan, had arrived and had kidnapped not only her close friend Rei but also LJ, one of the Defenders who they have become friends with ever since they first defeated Hadea.
She glanced over to the others. Ami, Makoto and Minako all appeared to be in shock by all this. Rick and Jedda were comforting each other as they appeared to be worried for their friends while being in shock.
"So Krotan has the power to teleport?" Minako asked.
"Yes." Jedda explained. "He has the powers of teleportation as well as telekinesis and the power to disguise himself as any person. He got those powers from Zorelda and I'm surprised he still has those powers to this day."
"Krotan has kidnapped not only Sailor Mars," Minako stated, "but LJ as well."
"We might as well let Dad and the others know about what is going on." Rick said.

Flash was getting worried. It had been over two hours and the rest of the team had yet to return from the space station. Only April had returned. He wondered what was going on.
He pressed a button to get a hold of the group. Rick appeared on the screen.
"Dad," Rick told his father, "we have an emergency."
"Well," April scoffed, "I knew that something was going to happen."
"April," Flash sternly chastised his daughter, "now is not the time."
"What appears to be the problem?" the Phantom asked.
"Krotan." Jedda answered. "He came to the station and attacked us."
"He's got LJ and Sailor Mars." Rick added.
"What?!" Lothar exclaimed in shock. "Why?!"
"We don't know why." Jedda shook her head. "All we know is that he will be coming back."

Setsuna looked on in surprise. Why exactly did Krotan go after the younger Defenders? What exactly was he up to?
"You guys need to return to Monitor at once." Flash told the younger Defenders. "We'll track down LJ and Mars and then stop Krotan."
"Not so fast, Gordon." Setsuna spoke up.
"What?" Flash glanced at her in surprise.
"Haruka, Michiru and I will head over to the space station to help the young Defenders and the Sailor Guardians find their friends." Setsuna calmly replied.
"We want to go too." Hotaru told her guardian.
"Yeah." Chibiusa added. "We have to know if Usagi and the others are okay along with your group, Flash."
Setsuna sighed. She didn't really want to get them involved with a new enemy this soon. They insist on it though, so she assumed she had not much other option. "All right. Don't make me regret this."
"I'm going with you guys too." Mamoru stepped forward, transforming into his Tuxedo Mask outfit. "I need to be there to protect Usa and the rest of the group."
"The prince has a point." Haruka replied.
"I'm going too!" April exclaimed. "It turned out to be worse than I thought."
"Not so fast." Flash stopped his daughter.
"What? Why?" April asked.
"I need you to remain here on Monitor and take charge of things here." Flash answered. April groaned in annoyance.
"Good luck you guys." Mandrake told Mamoru and the Outer Guardians.
"We'll meet you guys there." Flash added.
Setsuna nodded as she gathered hands with Mamoru, Chibiusa, Haruka, Michiru and Hotaru.

Flash watched in surprise as the Mamoru and the Outer Guardians vanished from sight.
"I had no idea they could do that." he stated. He sighed as he heard Mandrake call out, "Kshin, I need you to stay here on Monitor with April!"

Usagi glanced over at Cathleen in anger as the woman appeared to have no emotion for the events that had happened. She appeared to have no feelings or concern for either Rei or LJ. It made her wonder if she had something to do with Krotan's appearance and the abduction of her friends.
"Did you know something about this?!" Usagi demanded.
"Know about what?" Cathleen asked, confused.
"Usagi." Ami started to say.
"You had history with Ming!" Usagi exclaimed at the older woman in anger. "You're with that prince who kidnapped LJ and Mars!"
"Princess!" Haruka exclaimed as she appeared on the scene. "Calm down!"
"Haruka?" the group all exclaimed in surprise.
"Looks like we made it just in time." Michiru stated as she stood with April, Setsuna, Mamoru, Chibiusa and Hotaru.
"The rest of the Sailor Guardians are here." Rick stated.
"Krotan has taken LJ and Rei." Minako stated.
"We know." Setsuna replied. "We overheard when Rick told his father about the situation."
"It's going to be all right, Usako." Mamoru assured his lover as he held her in a loving embrace, "We're going to rescue our friends. Just cheer up. Stay strong. Okay?"
"Thanks Mamo." Usagi replied.
"Are you okay, Usagi?" Chibiusa asked.
"I'm fine now."
"We should search the space station for Krotan's location." Setsuna suggested. "Chances are we will find Mars and LJ too."
"Good idea." Usagi nodded in agreement.
"I will go with Rick." Ami announced.
"What?!" Jedda exclaimed in annoyance.
"Jedda." Minako stepped forward. "I think Ami needs this alone time with Rick. They need to have some closure and she's been wanting to get that closure ever since Hadea's reign ended."
She paused a moment before continuing, "Besides, I need to talk to you in private about something."
Jedda sighed and realized what she meant, "Oh. I understand. I'll go with Minako."
"Mercury and Rick will go Sector A." Setsuna explained the plan. "Saturn, you and Small Lady go with Jedda and Venus to Sector B."
Setsuna ignored the groans from Minako and Jedda as she continued to speak, "Uranus, Neptune, I want you to to go with the prince and princess to Sector C. I will go with Cathleen to Sector D and I won't let her out of my sight."
"So much for our private conversation." Minako quipped.
"At least for now." Jedda added calmly

Rick sighed as he looked around the area. Ami stood by his side. This felt sort of awkward given their brief romance together. However, Rick felt as if he needed to clear things up with Ami now that things have been cleared up with his girlfriend.
"Hey Ami." Rick finally spoke up.
"Hi Rick." Ami replied. She paused a moment before asking, "How did things go with you and Jedda recently?"
"They're okay." Rick answered. "Jedda is mainly just annoyed with us not letting her do much because of her pregnancy."
"That's not what I meant. I was implying about our romance."
"Our short-lived romance."
"Yes. You did tell her, didn't you?"
"Yeah. It wasn't easy but I managed to tell her."
"How did it go?"
Rick paused for a moment before he finally spoke up. "It turned out easier than I thought it was going to be. She wasn't mad at me like I thought. She told me she also had a brief romance with a Netherworlder who was our age named Tristan. Jedda was glad that it was never sexual between us. The same went between her and this Tristan guy."
Ami sighed with relief. "Oh good."
Rick nodded. "I'm very sorry for hurting you."
"Oh no." Ami shook her head. "You didn't hurt me. I'm just glad we were able to lend an ear to one another."
"I agree."
There was a silent pause between the two of them.
"You're not mad at Jedda, are you?" Rick asked, breaking the silence.
"No. Why would I be?" Ami answered.
"That's good."
"You should be there for her and the baby as you are the father of the child she carries."
"I plan on it." Rick nodded. "I love Jedda and I dreamt of having a future with her. I never imagined it would be so soon. It's scary."
"How so?"
"As you probably know by now, Jedda's father, the Phantom, was always on the go when she was growing up. Her mother left when she was young."
Rick looked down, thinking about his parents and his life growing up, "My parents would be away on missions at times when April and I were growing up. Then of course, April left for the academy when she hit her teen years."
He turned away from Ami for a moment, "I worry at times about the upbringing I'm going to bring this child."
Then he faced her again, "I know Jedda is going to be there for the baby, giving him or her the mother she longed for growing up. I worry what kind of upbringing I will bring the baby."
"You shouldn't worry about that right now." Ami gave her friend a gentle touch. "What you should worry about is being there for Jedda and helping her through her pregnancy."
"Thanks Ami. I thought about asking Jedda to marry me in the future."
He looked on as Ami looked at him in surprise.
"Too soon?"
"Like I said, you should focus on being there for Jedda for right now. That's not a bad idea though."
"I'm sorry for any hurt or disappointment I might have put you through."
"It's all right. I'm glad that we are able to have the time together."
"I still love you… as a friend."
"I feel the same way."
"That's very touching."
Rick and Ami were startled upon hearing a strange voice. They turned around to see an elderly man sitting on the corner of the area.
"I apologize for my rudeness." the old man told the two. "I just overheard you two talking. I'm glad things have worked out between you guys."
"Thank you, sir." Rick replied.
He glanced up in surprise and he remembered something Rei had said.
" I sense that something is about to happen."
Then Rick turned around to see Ami looking startled. She pressed her earring and the blue visor surrounded her face.
"This isn't an old man!" Ami exclaimed, scanning the "person" in front of them. "That's Krotan!"

Krotan revealed himself to the two. "How clever of you, Sailor Mercury! You caught on to my disguise quickly!"
"Where are LJ and Rei?!" Rick demanded, getting out his ray gun.
"They should be the least of your worries right now." Krotan replied.
"What are you talking about?" Ami asked.
Krotan looked at his two targets as he got out one of his mechanisms. He aimed it at Rick, who was hit with a strange energy field which caused him to freeze in position.
"Rick!" Ami exclaimed in surprise. She proceeded to contact the others. "Guys! Krotan is here with us! He trapped Rick in some kind of force field! Hurry! I'll try to hold him off as much as possible!"
Krotan glanced at his sole opponent.
"What did you do to him?" Ami asked.
"As you see here," Krotan answered, "I trapped Rick Gordon in a state of suspended animation. He's not harmed. For now."
He motioned two ice robots to the scene. "Guard Rick Gordon. When I am done with Sailor Mercury, we will leave this area."
"Hold it right there!"
Krotan looked to see all of the Sailor Guardians, Mamoru, and the adult Defenders on the scene.
"You're really on a roll, aren't you?" Sheila quipped. "First you kidnap Rei and LJ and now you are after Rick and Ami."
"What's it to you, sister dear." Krotan replied in annoyance.
"Let Rick go now!" Ami demanded before launching her attack. "Mercury Aqua Rhapsody!"
The attack took out some of the ice robots.
"Venus Love Me Chain!"
"World Shaking!"
"Deep Submerge!"
"Dead Scream!"
"Sparkling Wide Pressure!"
"Pink Sugar Tuxedo Attack!" Mamoru and Chibiusa launched their combined attack against their opponents just like the others did.
"Moon Spiral Heart Attack!"
The attacks wiped out the group of ice robots in the room.
"Curse you!" Krotan exclaimed in anger. He got out another mechanism which trapped Ami in a blue barrier.
"I can't breathe!" Ami moaned in agony.
"Ami!" Jedda exclaimed.
"Let her go!" Usagi demanded.
"Not a chance, Sailor Moon." Krotan smirked. "I got my targets for this round and I shall now leave with them."
"Oh no, you don't." Flash got out a ray gun and aimed towards the prince.
Krotan placed an immobilized Rick in front of him. "You try and shoot me, your son will be the one who pays the price, Flash Gordon."
"What a dirty trick!" Makoto exclaimed
"Coward!" Haruka added.
In the midst of all the commotion, Krotan noticed the young girl in the purple garb, armed with what looked like a glaive. He knew about the Sailor Guardian of Destruction and now, to his surprise, he saw her in person. So this is Sailor Saturn, the Sailor Guardian of Destruction? This changes everything. I must rethink my game plan a little bit.
Krotan then vanished from sight along with both Rick and Ami.

"Mercury?!" Usagi exclaimed in shock. She was in disbelief as she saw Krotan take two more of her friends. "Mercury!"
"Sailor Moon!" Mamoru and Chibiusa exclaimed in unison.
"Rick!" Jedda added in disbelief.
"No!" Flash cried out in agony as he dropped to his knees.
"Mercury!" Usagi yelled.
Scene Commentary:
Setsuna sighed. She didn't really want to get them involved with a new enemy this soon. They insist on it though, so she assumed she had not much other option. "All right. Don't make me regret this."
I figure I would get all the Sailor Guardians involved in dealing with Prince Krotan in this arc. Unlike, April and Kshin, who would stay behind to look after things at Monitor, Chibiusa and Hotaru would be capable of helping out whenever it was needed.

"They're okay." Rick answered. "Jedda is mainly just annoyed with us not letting her do much because of her pregnancy."
"That's not what I meant. I was implying about our romance."

This chapter was primarily dedicated to bringing closure to Rick and Ami after their brief romance they had in the previous volume. I also brought up Tristan as there might have been a kiss between the two while Jedda was with Hadea in Volume One before Jedda found out she was pregnant.
"I'm sorry for any hurt or disappointment I might have put you through."
"It's all right. I'm glad that we are able to have the time together."
"I still love you… as a friend."
"I feel the same way."
Rick and Ami had a nice romance but I was glad they were still able to be friends. I am glad that there was no ill will between the two.

I like to have the Sailor Guardians display their different attacks in both the anime and the manga. Like both Chibiusa and Mamoru's combo attack which was not in the original anime. It's always fun to show the many attacks the Sailor Guardians have.

In the manga during the Black Moon arc, Mars and Mercury were the first two Sailor Guardians abducted by Rubeus. Unlike the aforementioned arc, there's going to be a major twist in the next chapter. Also, I'm aware that Krotan and all of Mongo might be aware of the legend of the Sailor Guardians, and how powerful and dangerous Sailor Saturn is.

The Guardians and Defenders continue their clash against the queen.
In the aftermath, revelations emerge and choices are made.

The younger team members begin adjusting to the changes. Others strive to fit back into normal society.
As his companions reflect, Mandrake begins to sense a mystical disturbance.
Mandrake is reacquainted with a major figure in his life.
Ming returns.
The group scrambles to counter Ming, who is aided by Krotan.

Once again, Krotan makes his move on Jedda.

The groups scurry to save their friends. Ami and Rick have a personal discussion.
As Minako and Jedda connect, Krotan continues closing in on members of the group.

The Defenders and Guardians make their stand against Krotan.

Rick's dreams signal a great change in his life. Mysterious figures begin moving behind the scenes.
Rei and Rick sense more darkness on the horizon.
Ming and Galaxia engage in discussions.
An unexpected battle occurs at a concert.
Rick considers the effects of his transformation.
The team has a confrontation with a group knows as the Three Lights.
Rick's abilities make him a target.
As Rick continues healing, the Sailors assess the situation with the Starlights.

The group begins getting to know the newcomer.

Rick learns more about his power, and how it might relate to the current events. Hadea attempts to console him later.
The group endeavors to rescue Mamoru from a mystical prison.
Usagi and her friends confront Mamoru's captor.
The battle in the dream realm reaches a conclusion.
The aftermath of the dream clash brings several people closer.

Rick senses that the Netherworld could face an imminent attack.
The groups begin learning more about the Kings.
Hadea and her companions take preemptive measures against Zorelda.
Hadea and Phantom explore their bond, as do several others throughout the day. First appearance of Tori Gordon.
Rick and Jedda work to resolve recent issues. Minako explores life in the Netherworld.
Ming reenters the fray as the Kings converse with Zorelda.
The groups decide that it's time for the confrontation.
The Guardians and Defenders engage the Kings in the Netherworld.
The Kings begin to realize the truth.
With Zorelda seemingly thwarted, the groups begin moving on. A woman named Rachel arrives at Monitor.
Everyone begins learning more about Rachel.
