Chapter Nineteen: A Computer Game of Chess
Disclaimer: These next two chapters are based upon the Defenders of the Earth Golden Books book Computer Checkmate, which was written by William Hansen with alterations.
"We made a deal but you double crossed me!" Jedda exclaimed in anger. She clenched her fists as she stared directly at Krotan, who was smirking with how things were going with his plan. She looked as Minako and Hotaru were both unconscious, being carried by ice robots.
"Did I?" Krotan replied. "Oops. Sorry, it's a bad habit of mine."
"You promised to let Rick, LJ and the Sailor Guardians go free!" she exclaimed.
"Did I say that exactly?" Krotan chided.
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
"You should learn by now to not make a deal with me as I am the son of Ming the Merciless."
Jedda looked down in annoyance. She was angry at herself for allowing herself to be in the prince's hands. She didn't want her friends hurt. This felt like a no win situation, just as he had done when he used mind bombs to try and force her to marry him. This time it was no different than before and she believed it.
"Take Jedda to where the other prisoners are at." Krotan told one of the guards. "We shall be heading off to Mongo real soon."
"Yes, sire." the guard replied before he escorted her to the cell where the others were.

"I can't believe this! How could he do this?!" Makoto exclaimed angrily.
"That's Krotan for you." Flash replied as he appeared to be angry as well.
"He not only has my brother, but also LJ and Jedda too." April stated. "Not to mention some of the Sailor Guardians."
"Venus. Mercury. Mars. Saturn." Usagi stood still as she was upset as well.
"Rick. LJ. Jedda." Kshin added quietly.
"We have to pull ourselves together!" Mamoru told the others.
"How can you even say that?!" Makoto glared at him. "That slime prince has some of our friends! We need to find him and force him to get them back!"
"Jupiter!" Haruka leapt forward and slapped her. "Pull yourself together!"
"Haruka and Mamoru are right." Mandrake added calmly. "We need to pull ourselves together in order for us to save our friends from Krotan's grasp."
"So what are we supposed to do?" Makoto asked as she grasped her cheek, feeling the sting of the slap.
"All we can do right now is to try and figure out Krotan's next move and hopefully figure out where our friends are being held prisoner." Mandrake answered.

Minako opened her eyes. She found herself in a dark room.
"Ugh! Where am I?" Minako groaned.
"You're in Krotan's prison room." Jedda answered as she turned around to face her. "He's taking us to Mongo."
"Jedda." Minako eyed the room as she was looking to see if the others were prison room. She spotted each of them as they were also coming to. "Hotaru. Rei. Ami. Rick. LJ."
"You're here too?!" Rei exclaimed.
"Our clothes!" Rei exclaimed, touching the fabric of her clothes. Minako glanced around to see she was also back in her civilian form just like the rest of the Sailor Guardians. "This shouldn't be a surprise, I guess."
"We're not transformed!" Hotaru exclaimed in surprise, touching the fabric of her clothes as well.
"How is that possible?" LJ asked.
"I guess after so long out of action, the Sailor Guardians lose their power." Rick shrugged his shoulders.
"We'll need to bust out of here and escape." Rei told the others. She tried reaching for her wand but with no such luck. "What? My wand is gone!"
Ami tried searching for her wand too. "Mine too!"
Minako searched for her wand but to find that it wasn't there. "Mine's gone too."
Hotaru ended up with the same result. "No way!"
"Krotan must have taken us all." Ami spoke up as she rubbed her head. "And confiscated our wands as well to keep us from transforming."
"But where?" Hotaru asked.
"Like I told Minako, he's taking us to Mongo." Jedda answered.
Minako glanced in surprise. So Krotan planned to take them all to his home world of Mongo. She couldn't help but to wonder why he was taking them there.
"Why is Krotan taking us to Mongo anyway?" Rick asked.
"I'm not sure but when my father finds out about this, I swear!" Jedda exclaimed.
LJ couldn't help but to smirk as he assured the group. "Don't worry everyone. Our fathers as well as Mandrake and the rest of the Sailor Guardians will find a way to rescue us."
"I hope you're right." Ami sighed.
"Ha!" Minako looked up to see Krotan standing at the doorway of their prison room. "I beg to differ. Their days are numbered. Their lives will be but a small part of the ransom that I have planned."
"We shall see about that!" Rick exclaimed. Minako noted the anger that was on Rick's face. She could tell he clearly hated this prince.
"We shall see indeed, Young Gordon." Krotan replied before approaching his rival and tossing some dust in his face.
He smirked as Rick coughed a bit before walking away from the prison room, closing the door behind him.

Krotan was with delight over the success of his plan so far. If this continued to be a successful plan, Krotan might just be able to succeed in where his father had failed.
"Make sure our prisoners get proper care while they are in their cell on Mongo, especially Jedda Walker." Krotan told the guard that was taking the prisoners to Mongo.
"Yes, sire." the guard replied.
Normally, Krotan wouldn't make this kind of request but he could sense that Jedda was pregnant and he wasn't going to intend on risking her pregnancy, not necessarily just for her but for the sake of the possibility of a future heir for Mongo once he wed her after he succeeded in his latest plan.
"Once Octon sees I have the young Defenders in my grasp as well as four of the Sailor Guardians," Krotan stated, "he will surely help me take over Mongo and Earth as well!"

It seemed that it took no time at all to arrive at Ice Station Earth. Krotan approached the throne room where Octon awaited him.
"My my, Octon," Krotan addressed the super computer, "your talents have been wasted in the service of my blundering father. Under me, your true genius can be reached. Together, we can rule the universe."
He looked anxiously as there was a pause of silence in the room. Krotan assumed that his father told Octon in the past that he could not be trusted, which brought him to no surprise.
"Perhaps you are right, Krotan." Octon replied. "Ming has always been unsure of himself. What would be our next step?"
"I want you to challenge Dynak X and the Defenders of the Earth to a game of chess." Krotan explained, "Tell her if she loses, she has to shut down Monitor's Defense systems for twenty four hours."
"What if she doesn't accept the challenge?" Octon asked.
"If the Earthlings have any second thought about accepting," Krotan answered as he showed the image of Rick comforting Jedda while LJ, Rei, Ami, Minako and Hotaru are looking on concerned and worried, "remind them about my… visitors I have on Mongo."
"And if I should lose?"
"Tell Dynak X that your are prepared to self destruct, thus ending Mongo's threats to Earth forever."
"Are you serious?"
"What do you think?! Remember, whatever the outcome, we still have the three young Defenders along with four of the Sailor Guardians to bargain with."
"Very well. I will have to keep Ming from interfering with this plan."
"Good." Krotan smirked in satisfaction. "Very good. I already have some ideas in mind for our guests on Mongo once I succeed with my conquest."
"And just what would that be?" Octon asked, his curiosity piqued.
"You might already have a hint by now." Krotan answered. "Jedda Walker would be my queen and I would have not one but two sets of carnage under my ruling."

Makoto looked on as the group surrounded April as they were all gathered around the computer screen.
"It looks like there is a message." April announced.
"Krotan?" Makoto asked.
"From Octon!"
Flash relayed the message and the news regarding the capture of their friends as well as Octon's challenge.
"They've taken our friends to the planet Mongo!" Makoto exclaimed.
"Yes. We have to rescue them!" Usagi added.
"Earth must be saved too." the Phantom added before he asked. "What if Dynak loses?"
"If any harm comes to my son…" Flash glared in anger.
"Or if any harm comes to my son…" Lothar added.
"Or if any harm comes to our friends…" Makoto added as she is started to seethe in anger over the situation.
"Or if any harm comes to Hotaru," Michiru stated, "Professor Tomoe would never forgive us."
"What I would like to know is," Setsuna stated, "Why on Earth is this Krotan in charge? What had become of Ming?"
Mandrake glanced over at his teammate in response. "You took the words out of my mouth."

"Ah Octon," Krotan stated with glee as the black and white pawns were set on the computer screens of both opponents, "The Defenders as well as the Sailor Guardians have accepted my challenge as I knew they would. How easy it is to outwit those Earthlings. I will have them at every turn."
"As promised," Octon announced, "I have kept your father occupied lest he interfere."
"Good." Krotan replied. "Now we can begin."

Makoto watched intensely as Dynak was in an intense chess game with Octon. The game was going on for hours on end. She was amazed on how well Lothar was good at playing chess while noticing the rest of the Sailor Guardians watching on intensely as well as the rest of the Defenders.
She was startled with a surprising move unknown in the history of chess. Not even Lothar knew about this mysterious new move.
"What is that?!" Michiru exclaimed.
"I see you have not been programmed to deal with the Mongo Bolo." Octon's computer voice chimed in from the other end. "Checkmate!"
"What kind of move is that?" Dynak asked. "I am finished!"
"Impossible!" Makoto exclaimed, becoming angry again.
"No way!" Usagi and Chibiusa added in unison.
"I can't believe it!" April added.
"Is everything lost?" Lothar asked.
"Not yet, it isn't." Flash answered.

Chapters
Volume One
Using the power of the Necklace of Oros, Queen Hadea conquers the galaxy. The Defenders seek help from a group called the Sailor Guardians.
Rei notices the effects of battle on Usagi. Meanwhile, both teams make desperate efforts to end the clash. The Sailors approach Hadea's temple, and Flash's daughter returns to lend her aid.
Each side becomes more powerful.
Issues in Jedda's past and present lead to a monumental decision.
Princess Jedda begins embracing Hadea's cause. Ami and Rick continue to bond.
Members of the Sailor Outer Senshi join the battle. Princess Jedda is faced with a decision as a ruler. Later, she explores a startling possibility.
Now divided, the teams fend attacks off while struggling to reach Hadea.
As Rick and the princess finally reunite, a climactic showdown with Hadea begins.
The Guardians and Defenders continue their clash against the queen.
In the aftermath, revelations emerge and choices are made.
Volume Two
The younger team members begin adjusting to the changes. Others strive to fit back into normal society.
As his companions reflect, Mandrake begins to sense a mystical disturbance.
Mandrake is reacquainted with a major figure in his life.
Ming returns.
The group scrambles to counter Ming, who is aided by Krotan.
16: The First Abductions: LJ and Mars
Once again, Krotan makes his move on Jedda.
17: Closure For Rick and Mercury
The groups scurry to save their friends. Ami and Rick have a personal discussion.
As Minako and Jedda connect, Krotan continues closing in on members of the group.
Krotan has an enticing proposition.
The Defenders and Guardians make their stand against Krotan.
Volume Three
Rick's dreams signal a great change in his life. Mysterious figures begin moving behind the scenes.
Rei and Rick sense more darkness on the horizon.
Ming and Galaxia engage in discussions.
An unexpected battle occurs at a concert.
Rick considers the effects of his transformation.
The team has a confrontation with a group knows as the Three Lights.
Rick's abilities make him a target.
As Rick continues healing, the Sailors assess the situation with the Starlights.
Rick is targeted by the Sailor Animamates.
The team searches for Rick, along with information on their new opponents.

As the struggle against Galaxia continues, Hadea and Jedda discuss the Netherworld's future. Meanwhile, Usagi's power grows.
Cathleen initiates her effort to control Rick.
The team manages to locate Rick and his manipulator.
Rick frets over his mutation while others seek to reverse it.
The Sailors and their allies face a new threat in Tin Nyanko.
Nyanko becomes the latest to seek Rick's power.
As Rick's humanity begins slipping away, his friends continue their quest to cure him.
Rick runs amok, and a massive battle against Nyanko begins.
The Sailors make a stunning discovery.
Jedda and Rick take a huge step forward.

Rick and Jedda begin their new lives.
A girl arrives to meet Mandrake.
The group begins getting to know the newcomer.
Rick is visited by a servant who gives him access to valuable information.
Amy's special abilities are revealed.
Rick learns more about his power, and how it might relate to the current events. Hadea attempts to console him later.
The group endeavors to rescue Mamoru from a mystical prison.
Usagi and her friends confront Mamoru's captor.
The battle in the dream realm reaches a conclusion.
The aftermath of the dream clash brings several people closer.
Volume Six
Rick senses that the Netherworld could face an imminent attack.
The groups begin learning more about the Kings.
Hadea and her companions take preemptive measures against Zorelda.
Hadea and Phantom explore their bond, as do several others throughout the day. First appearance of Tori Gordon.
Rick and Jedda work to resolve recent issues. Minako explores life in the Netherworld.
Ming reenters the fray as the Kings converse with Zorelda.
The groups decide that it's time for the confrontation.
The Guardians and Defenders engage the Kings in the Netherworld.
The Kings begin to realize the truth.
With Zorelda seemingly thwarted, the groups begin moving on. A woman named Rachel arrives at Monitor.
Everyone begins learning more about Rachel.
