Chapter Twenty-Seven: Blame

Disclaimer: Some of the dialogue is from the episode "The Hall of Wisdom" which is an episode written by Larry Parr and Gar Haywood.

Ming watched the video recording Garax gave him. He was amazed to see the exact power that Galaxia was talking about. He watched as Rick vaporized Sailor Iron Mouse, wiping her out in the process.

"So this is the power Rick Gordon has." Ming stated to himself. "Interesting. It is just a pity that Sailor Iron Mouse failed in her little mission."

"Yes it is a pity." a feminine voice replied from behind.

"A real pity indeed." a second feminine voice added.

Startled, Ming turned around to see two silhouette female figures in front of him, at first covered in darkness. The first figure's eyes was glowing red while the other one was glowing blue.

"We won't blow it like Sailor Iron Mouse did however." the first figure stated.

"That's right." the second figure nodded.

"Who dares to arrive here without my permission?!" Ming demanded.

"Why we did, of course. We are the next of the Sailor Animates sent by Lady Galaxia." the first figure added as light shone on her. She had long red hair. "I am Sailor Lead Crow."

"And I am Sailor Aluminum Siren." the second figure answered as the light shone on her. She had long wavy light blue hair. "We were sent here by Lady Galaxia to succeed where Sailor Mouse failed."

"I can only hope." Ming replied, looking at the new faces.

"We are here after Rick Gordon's newly activated powers." Sailor Aluminum Siren said.

"As well as the Sailor Crystals from the Sailor Guardians." Sailor Lead Crow added. "We won't screw up like Sailor Iron Mouse did."

"That poor thing didn't even stand a chance against that Quasanite blast." Sailor Aluminum stated with a feigned awe.

"Of course she didn't!" Sailor Lead Crow exclaimed, making a glance towards her fellow Animate. "Now we must pick up where she left off."

"But of course." Sailor Aluminum Siren smirked.

"Enough of your talking and get to it!" Ming told the two women. "Find Young Gordon and bring him to me. The Sailor Guardians as well."

"But of course." Sailor Lead Crow replied.

Ming watched as the two new Sailor Animates vanished from sight. He had a feeling these two were going to be different from Sailor Iron Mouse.

Rick walked down the hall. He felt shaken by the revelation that was given to him. He clutched his head as he was feeling dizzy. He tried brushing it off, assuming it was from the stress and anxiety from the revelation that was given. It was a lot to take in. He was normal, human now but he wondered how long it would be before that changed, before he changed.

The scenarios that could happen to him were very scary: he could die or he could literally transform into a monster, which Kakyuu stated the latter as a fate worse than death. Either of those scenarios would cause him to leave Jedda and his children, which he didn't want to do.

Fortunately, there was an antidote in case he started mutating. He was up for that option but he knew once he did, he would no longer be human and wondered if things would ever be the same again.

"Rick?"

Rick turned around to see Jedda with a worried look on her face.

"Jedda." he faked a smile, trying to keep her from worrying.

"Are you all right?" she asked, concerned.

Rick only stared at her, not knowing what he could say.

"Is it about that revelation Princess Kakyuu and the Starlights gave you?" Jedda asked.

He gave out a nod.

She sighed and stepped forward, giving him an assuring touch, "Listen, it's going to be fine."

"Is it?" Rick replied. "Jedda, I might die from this radiation in my body… or worse… I might become a monster, literally. Those guys even said it's a fate worse than death."

"But Princess Kakyuu did say there was a third option." Jedda calmly replied. "She said there was an antidote in case you become a monster."

"I want the third option," Rick gently grasped her hand, "but I can't help but to think what would happen once I become a Quasanite."

"What are you talking about?" Jedda asked, confused.

"Well," he proceeded to explain, "I am certain my Aunt Janet would shun me because of my changes. She is a part of an organization which opposes non humans and extraterrestrials. She and her crew oppose all of Mongo and I suppose she opposes Hadea."

He glanced around the room for a moment before he continued. "I also wonder what my Dad and April would think."

"Now hold on a second." Jedda assured him. "I'm certain your father and sister wouldn't shun you, no matter what you are: human or Quasanite. If your aunt happens to shun you, it's her loss because you are still you."

Rick suddenly felt a strange sensation go through him. He clutched his head and groaned.

"Rick, are you okay?" Jedda asked in worry.

"No." he groaned. "I feel strange. My head. I thought it was because I was worried but it won't go away."

He looked up as LJ arrived at the area.

"What's going on?" LJ asked.

"Something's wrong with Rick." Jedda answered, clutching her hands to her face in shock.

Suddenly, Rick coughed for a moment. After coughing, he noticed the shocked looks on his girlfriend and best friend.

"The radiation must be taking a toll on him." LJ stated.

"Guys?" Rick looked confused at first. Then he wiped his mouth and noticed blood on his hand. "That came out of me?"

Jedda nodded in worry.

-Sailor-Moon-Defenders-

Jedda took a deep breath, trying to keep herself together for the babies. She looked in shock as Rick collapsed backwards to the floor.

Quickly, LJ caught him before he could hit the floor. "Rick!"

In a chain reaction, Usagi, Ami, Flash, Sheila, Mandrake, Setsuna, Hotaru, Chibiusa, Mamoru and Rei all hurried to the area. Jedda saw their shocked reactions. She also saw Flash pale at the sight of his son. "Rick!"

Hotaru ran to his side in worry. "Rick, wake up!"

A Few Years Ago

Jedda was trying to get her jet to respond but to no avail. "No. My jet is not responding!"

She was struggling to get her jet to move but again nothing happen. It was certain that she was about to be shot. Before she could prepare herself for the worst, she saw Rick jetting in front of her, protecting her from the attack.

"Rick, no!" Jedda cried out. She watched in horror as one of Ming's robo ships shot him directly in the chest, causing him to fall out of his jet. "Rick!"

In shock, she saw him land on the floor in a pool of blood. This was bad and she needed to see if he was okay. She hurried to his side with Kisa right behind her. "Rick!"

Jedda held Rick in her arms. She saw that there was blood on his chest and his eyes were closed and could tell it was a direct hit. She gasped when she touched his cold hand and found there was no pulse. "No. Rick… he's gone. I'll never see him again!"

She noticed a laser about to hit her and quickly ducked as she lowered her head over Rick's body. She could hear shots in the midst of the chaos. She didn't acknowledge it as she looked at the body below her, knowing that Rick was now gone and it was all her fault.

The next thing Jedda knew, she was being lifted in the air along with Rick's body. She looked to see her father, Flash and LJ also with her. They were all being protected by some sort of force field.

"What's happening?" Jedda couldn't help but to ask.

Nobody answered the question. They got their air suits removed. Flash knelt down to his son's lifeless body, removing the air suit from him. Jedda saw tears down his face as he sank further and wept softly. She looked to see LJ and the Phantom in sorrow as well.

Moments later, Flash stood up, hatred etched on his pained face. "Ming will pay for this. I swear it."

"You'll get your chance, my friend." the Phantom assured him.

Jedda sighed in response.

Then I should pay as well. Jedda couldn't help but to think. If my jet had just moved, Rick wouldn't have sacrificed himself for me.

LJ glanced down at her with tears down his face. "It's not your fault Jedda."

"LJ's right." the Phantom assured his daughter. "Rick knew the risks involved."

Jedda looked around as the group was still being carried around in the bubble.

"Flash," she spoke up after a pause of silence, "I don't understand. Where is it taking us?"

"I don't know," Flash shook his head. "but the Hall can't keep us in this bubble forever."

Jedda was startled by a strange but seemingly friendly new voice that spoke up. "Oh my goodness. Goodness gracious me, this will never do. Oh my, no no no. Never do at all."

The group looked to see a man with a long brown beard, dressed as a wizard of some sort. Jedda looked at the new humanoid in surprise.

"Who are you?" Flash asked.

"I am Jarbon," the man answered, "caretaker of the Hall of Wisdom. You are my guests. Oh my yes, that you are."

Jedda noticed as the bubble was placing them down where Jarbon was at. Maybe this strange man could save Rick somehow.

"What have we here?" Jarbon asked before he lifted his hands, freeing the group from the bubble they were in.

"Can you help him?" Jedda asked in despair, holding Rick in her arms.

"Help him?" Jarbon walked over to where the group was standing. "Help him? Hmm. Perhaps yes, perhaps no but we must hurry. Come, come come come."

He motioned the group to another area of the room they were at where a table was awaiting them. Jarbon had Flash and the Phantom to place Rick in the room.

"Can you bring my boy back to life?" Flash asked after placing his son's body on the table. Jedda was wondering the same thing. All she could do for now is watch, wait and hope for the best.

"Can I?" Jarbon replied as he was pressing a few buttons, preparing the machine in which Rick was on. "Oh my, no. I can't do anything of the kind. No no no."

Jedda sighed, feeling her heart becoming heavy. She looked up after taking a deep breath.

"But in some cases," Jarbon explained further, "the life extender here can repair damage and start the system working again. Quite remarkable actually, oh yes. Yes indeed."

She looked up as he was getting the last piece of mechanism that would be placed above Rick's body. "I just hope that we're in time. Yes indeed. Yes yes indeed."

Jedda walked over to Rick's still form and gently touched his forehead, assuring him that it was going to be okay. "Tell me, what can we do to help?"

"Back." Jarbon answered, motioning the Defenders to stand back. "Back, back, back. Everyone back."

She complied as did LJ, Flash and the Phantom and she saw him press a few more buttons, probably making final preparations on what he was about to do. "It's time. Oh yes it is."

Jedda couldn't help but to notice some unusual light within the machine that Rick was on. Something about this didn't feel right. If Rick was to return from death, would this give him some residual effect that no one would be aware of?

She tensed as Jarbon stated. "This is it."

Suddenly, the glow on the table stopped. Was this it? Was Rick gone for good?

"Not to worry." Jarbon assured the group. "It always does this."

He slammed his hand on the controls before a huge burst of energy burst through the machine, surrounding Rick's body. In the process, it knocked everyone down to the floor.

Jedda did the best she could to see what was happening. She noticed the huge burst of light and wondered if this light had some sort of radiation that would affect Rick later on in life. She looked away as the light was too bright for her to look at for so long.

Moments later, the light cleared away and Rick's entire body started to glow. She noticed him starting to move around and breathing again.

"He's alive!" Jedda exclaimed. "Rick's alive!"

She sighed with relief, knowing that Rick was going to be okay.

Present Day

Jedda looked down as Rick was laying at Monitor's medical bed. He was unconscious and frail. She could tell the radiation was taking a toll on him and faster than she had thought. She barely acknowledged the other Defenders in the room as well as the Sailor Guardians.

"Dynak," Flash asked looking up at the medical screen, "what's the status of Rick's condition?"

Dynak shown Rick's failing vital signs. "All life processes continue to grow weaker."

Jedda's eyes widened in shock. She couldn't believe that this was happening. Rick was dying from a magical radiation. The guilt hit her hard as she knew that this was something she caused several years ago. "This can't be happening."

-Sailor-Moon-Defenders-

April looked down at her brother's frail form. She couldn't believe this radiation was taking a toll on him so quickly. She wasn't there when the Defenders were at the Hall of Wisdom as she had returned to the academy by that time.

She sighed, wishing that she could have done something to help them that day. She wished she had waited later to return the academy. If she had waited just a little longer, maybe Rick wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. If she had waited to return to the academy, maybe they would still be doing their usual banter. Anything. Just not this.

A part of her also knew that chances were, there was nothing she could have done, even if she was there that day at the Hall of Wisdom. She looked to see Jedda holding Rick's hand, trying to be strong. Then she looked back down at her brother's frail form. A part of her wanted to comfort him and tell him that everything would be okay. She also wanted to comfort Jedda. She couldn't. She kept it all inside, feeling sad over the possibility of losing her brother to this magical radiation.

Then she looked over to her father, who was pacing the room in anger. Sheila walked over to him in concern.

"Flash?" she glanced at him in concern.

"Ming is going to pay for putting Rick in this situation." Flash spoke in a cold tone, which didn't really belong to him. He got a hand gun as it appeared that he was serious about this.

"Dad?!" April exclaimed in surprise.

"I have to do this." Flash stated in anger. "If Ming didn't go after the Hall of Wisdom, your brother wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. If my son is about to die, then it's time for Ming to die too before he can take you from me too!"

She stared at her father in awe but at the same time worried about him acting so reckless. Rick wasn't dead yet. She didn't understand what he was doing.

"Don't do this!" Minako shouted.

"It is not worth it, my friend." Mandrake tried to stop him. "You'll end up losing yourself."

"What more can I lose?" Flash asked. "Ming has essentially killed my son. He's slowly dying from this magical radiation."

"Flash, you must think about this!" Mamoru exclaimed, stepping forward.

"That's being pretty reckless if you ask me!" Makoto spoke up.

"You weren't there that day." Flash glanced at her. "Ming was responsible for killing my son in the first place!"

"Rick wouldn't want you to do this!" Ami took a brave step forward.

"How would you know? He saw his mother being killed by that tyrant. Now he is about to die from radiation that would've never happened if Ming didn't try to invade the Hall of Wisdom!"

"Flash, stop this!" Rei stepped forward. "This is not the way to go and you know it!"

"Don't you give me that righteousness talk!" Flash snapped. "Unlike Hadea, Ming has been beyond redemption for years! Ming has to be stopped and that means killing him!"

April looked on in worry. How long can the Sailor Guardians keep this up?

"Rei is right, Flash Gordon!" Chibiusa finally spoke up in a firm and angry tone. "We're aware about your legend as well as the war Ming caused on Mongo and on Earth but you are acting reckless, even for your standards. Imagine if Rick saw you now. He would be disappointed, ashamed. Ashamed to call you his father by the way that you're acting."

Everyone looked at the girl in surprise. They were all surprised to hear this speech coming from her. Flash started to shake and April could tell she was getting through to him. Everyone in the room sighed with relief.

"We'll do what we can to help Rick." Chibiusa spoke again, this time in a calm tone. "We promise you. You can't be acting in blind vengeance. It's not the way to go. Please, drop the weapon."

Flash took a deep breath and slowly placed the hand gun on the table.

"You know Chibiusa, for a kid," LJ spoke up, breaking the silence, "that was a pretty powerful speech."

"I thought no one was able to get through to Flash." Lothar added.

"Technically, I am 902 years old." Chibiusa chimed in with a slight grin. "I am from the 30th Century."

"Ah yes." Mandrake stated, adjusting his hat. "We keep forgetting that."

-Sailor-Moon-Defenders-

"Are we done with the dramatics?" Seiya chimed in.

Jedda and the others looked to see Kakyuu and the Starlights in the Medical room.

"Princess." Jedda spoke quietly.

"My apologies for what happened, Highness." Mandrake respectfully bowed to the princess.

"It is quite all right." Kakyuu nodded. "I think I might be able to help Rick Gordon. At least for the moment."

"What do you mean?" Flash asked, confused.

Jedda looked confused as Kakyuu walked over to Rick's side. She placed her hands towards his body and they started to glow.

"What are you doing?" Jedda asked.

"Not all glows are filled with dangerous radiation." Yaten assured her.

Everyone looked on with tensity. Moments later, the glow stopped.

"There." Kakyuu gave out a small smile. "It is done."

"What did you do?" Kshin asked.

"I healed him." Kakyuu answered. "He should be at a stable condition at any time now."

"All life processes are starting to improve." Dynak's voice chimed in.

Jedda sighed with relief.

"He is stabilized for the time being." Kakyuu told the others. "However, he is not out of danger yet. He will need to rest in his quarters."

"I'll take him there." Lothar nodded.

"That is not all." Kakyuu spoke up. "It doesn't mean he will not mutate. That will happen for every time he uses his powers from this point on."
