Chapter Thirty-One: Short-Lived Calming
Ming looked at the screen, noticing the changes within Sailor Moon's outfit. "I see that Sailor Moon has an upgrade in her powers and her outfit."
Then he turned around to see Sailor Lead Crow in front of him, appearing to be annoyed. Not that it mattered to him. "And I also see that you failed in obtaining any of the Sailor Crystals and that you also lost Rick Gordon."
"In case you haven't noticed," Sailor Lead Crow retorted in response, "Siren and I nearly succeeded in having Rick Gordon in our grasps! We had him! We would have succeeded had it not been for Sailor Moon and the Sailor Starlights."
"I want to hear any excuses and I assume that your boss Galaxia doesn't either." Ming replied. He took a deep breath before looking towards her again. "Speaking of which, Galaxia wishes to have a word with you."
He took a step back as the room turned dark. Then, he looked to see Galaxia appearing in a glisten of bright energy. Immediately, Sailor Lead Crow knelt before her boss.
"Well Sailor Lead Crow," Galaxia asked, "what is your progress in obtaining Rick Gordon and the Sailor Crystals?"
"Forgive me, Lady Galaxia," Lead Crow answered, "We were nearly successful in delivering Rick Gordon to you but Sailor Moon and the Sailor Starlights foiled our plans and destroyed Sailor Aluminum Siren in the process."
"You do realize I do not accept any excuses." Galaxia replied with a sneer. "And you do understand the chances you have left are dwindling, correct?"
"Yes. I understand."
"There is no room for incompetent individuals, no room for scum." Galaxia continued. "Bring me Rick Gordon, and the Sailor Crystals as well if you value your life. Failure is not an option. Is that clear?"
Sailor Lead Crow nodded. "I understand, Lady Galaxia."
Galaxia vanished from sight and Ming noticed the lights on Ice Station Earth came back on. He glanced at Lead Crow before speaking up. "I think she has made herself clear. Obtain Rick Gordon as well as the Sailor Crystals."
"Of course." Sailor Lead Crow gave him a smug look before vanishing from sight.
Ming glanced around with suspicion.
"My sensors indicate that Galaxia and her forces have a different agenda in destroying the Sailor Guardians and for Rick Gordon as well." Octon boomed in suddenly.
"That happens to be my thoughts exactly." Ming replied. "They may be after the son of my arch nemesis but I believe that they have their own agenda as well. I only imagine what that would be."

Sailor Lead Crow found herself in a dark alleyway. She took a deep breath and looked around her surroundings. She had not only getting the Sailor Crystals and Rick Gordon for Lady Galaxia but also revenge for the death of her partner Sailor Aluminum Siren.
Siren took this task seriously until her last breath, she thought. She was my best friend. I will make them pay for Siren's demise. The Sailor Starlights, the Sailor Guardians, Sailor Moon and even the Defenders of the Earth. They will all pay!
Sailor Lead Crow sighed roughly. She knew that she had a lot of work to do and there was no room for failure. This was surely going to be a battle that will decide her fate for if she failed, Galaxia will dispose of her for sure.

Rei looked up at the daytime sky, covering her eyes as the sun was bright. She was surprised at all these recent events that have recently happened. Ever since joining forces with the Defenders of the Earth, this had been such an astonishing journey with surprising moments.
Besides their battles with Hadea, Krotan and now this current threat, they met a group of comedians known as the Stooges, they learned the Amazoness Quartet were destined to be Chibiusa's future guardians, learned Jedda was half Netherworlder, and now, the discovery that Rick had powers that nearly killed him. She wondered what was going to happen now.
Startled, Rei gasped and looked up at the sky again. She looked to see two familiar black birds flying in circles.
"Phobos? Deimos?" Rei stated quietly. "You followed me here. What brings you two all this way?"
"What are you doing out here, my dear?"
She turned around to see Mandrake.
"I wanted to take a breath of fresh air." Rei answered. "I also saw two old friends of mine."
"Old friends?"
They both looked up at the sky to see the two crows flying in circles.
"Those black birds?" Mandrake asked.
"They're crows," Rei answered.
"Really now?"
"Yes. Phobos and Deimos. They followed me here."
"I wonder why."
"They're my friends," Rei explained. "I know you might find that hard to understand but Phobos and Deimos have been friends of mine since I was a girl."
"Well, that's lovely. Lothar and I are going to the diner with Setsuna, Haruka, Michiru and Hotaru. Care to join us?' Mandrake asked.
"No thanks." Rei shook her head. "I'll be back inside the mansion in a bit though."
"Alrighty then."
She watched as Mandrake left the area. Then she glanced at the sky, watching Phobos and Deimos flying for a moment. She wondered what exactly brought them here. She sighed before returning to the mansion.

Usagi looked on Monitor's screen as Luna was monitor her new outfit. She took a deep breath, amazed at her new sailor fuku. "I was feeling the power of my friends. All the Sailor Guardians and Mamo and then, I started feeling incredible power."
"It's your Eternal form." Luna spoke up after scanning details about the fuku.
"Eternal form?" Flash asked.
"Yes." Luna faced him as Usagi followed suit. "Eternal Sailor Moon."
"Her newest powers is the closest to the powers of Queen Serenity." Artemis added.
"Queen Serenity from the Silver Millennium, right?" April asked.
"That's right." Diana perked.
"In that case," the Phantom replied, "we might actually have a chance to defeat Galaxia and her forces."
"Hey Dad," Rick appeared in Monitor and he asked, "do you have a minute to talk?"
"Not now, Rick." Flash shook his head. "We're having a meeting here to talk about a new strategy dealing with Galaxia as well as Zorelda and Ming."
"Yeah. Sure." Rick huffed. "I'll be taking a shower."
Usagi looked on, slightly frustrated as he walked away. Then, she faced Flash. "Did you really need to brush your son off like that?"
"Take it easy, Usako." Mamoru gently grasped his lover's arm. "We really need to talk about how we're going to deal with these new threats."
"True, but what if it was important?" Usagi asked.

Rick took a warm shower, reflecting on the most recent events that had happened. He sighed, finding it hard to believe everything that had happened. Things were calm, at least for the time being.
He knew that it was far from over as it was most likely inevitable that he would mutate into some sort of monster, something that he hoped would not be the case. Even so, once he was cured from the mutation he wondered what would become of him. How would the Defenders and Sailor Guardians be able to protect his powers from evil forces? Would things ever be the same again? The latter question, he highly doubted it.
He dried off and got his clothes on before walking down the hall to look for Jedda, wanting to talk to her.
"Rick," Hotaru asked, "are you okay?"
Rick turned around and faced her. "Yeah. Better than what I was feeling. Thanks."
"That's good." Hotaru smiled.
"Have you seen Jedda?" Rick asked.
"She said she was talking to her mother about something but she didn't say what." Hotaru answered.
That wasn't surprising to say the least. Jedda had been talking to Hadea several times after her reign ended. He'd gotten used to it by now. After all, the woman had been like the mother that Jedda had often longed for and from Jedda was talking about during her time in the Netherworld, Hadea had essentially become her foster mother and still was to this day, despite the fact that it was Jedda who caused her reign to end.
"There's something I've wanted to ask you, Rick." Hotaru chimed, pulling him from his thoughts.
"And what's that?" Rick asked, confused.
"Were you the one who came up with the plans and designs of Monitor and its defense systems?" Hotaru asked.
"Yeah." Rick nodded. "I did."
"And Dynak X, you created the super computer too?"
"Yeah. I created her."
"Her?"
Rick took a deep breath. "You're right. She's really not a person but at times she really seems like a person."
"From having the essence of your mother? How were you able to do all that?"
He couldn't help but to let out a chuckle. "You sure are one curious kid. I'm certain you'd find it all hard to understand. Monitor is here to defend the Earth from Ming and other evil threats."
"There you are, Hotaru." Setsuna walked in on the scene. "Mandrake and Lothar are waiting for us. We'll be meeting Haruka and Michiru at the diner for lunch."
"Okay." Hotaru nodded, walking towards her.
"Rick," Setsuna asked, "are you sure you don't want to come with us?"
"Yeah, I'm sure." Rick answered. "I will be talking to Jedda once she's finished talking to… her mother."
"Alright." Setsuna nodded with a small smile. "Let's go, Hotaru."
Rick looked on as they both left the scene before making his way to his girlfriend's room.

"I believe I understand your situation, Jedda." Hadea spoke up, which brought some glimmer of hope to Jedda.
"You do?" she asked.
"Yes." Hadea nodded. "It is a rare occurrence in which your boyfriend is going through. He still loves you, correct?"
"Yes." Jedda explained. "He even stated he didn't want to leave me and the babies. The thought of it scares him, especially with the fact that it almost happened. Not only that, the enemy is quite ruthless and the mutations that will inevitably happen to Rick."
"These mutations are beyond my control as the Quasar power and Rick Gordon's Quasanite powers are relatively new discoveries, even for my forces." Hadea explained. "However, he is still able to be protected. I am going to give you a bargain to save your boyfriend."
"And what would that be?"
"I will need you to give me your word that you will become Queen of the Netherworld and I will help protect Rick Gordon and his powers," Hadea said, not keeping her eyes off her foster daughter.
Jedda drew a deep breath in shock and took a step back. It was almost like when her fother had agreed to wed Hadea in order to save Jedda's life, though he'd managed to escape that obligation. This time, there appeared to be no escape. Then again, she felt as if there wouldn't be any need to. Would there?
"Given the current circumstances at hand," Hadea continued, "I will give you time to make a decision."
"What about Rick?" Jedda couldn't help but to ask.
"Rick Gordon will have to reside here with us as well," Hadea answered. "It is his best chance at being safe from Ming or any other threats. Even this Galaxia that you speak of. I am aware that she is dangerous and we will be ready when and if she tries to come to this kingdom. However, I can't guarantee your boyfriend might be happy with my terms. Not at first."
Jedda took a deep sigh and then she replied. "I understand. I love you, Mother."
"And I love you." Hadea replied.
She turned off the screen before standing up, thinking of the offer Hadea had just provided her. This was something she would have to consider and talk it over with the team, especially Rick and her father. Jedda figured that she would be chosen to be Queen of the Netherworld, but never imagined things would turn out the way they were.
"Jedda."
Jedda turned around to see Rick. They both walked forward and held hands.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"I don't know to be honest." he shook his head. "Everything that's happened here is… a shock."
"Yeah. I think we can both say that."
"So, what did your… mother have to say?" Rick asked.
"She's willing to help protect you and your powers from Ming or any other threat." Jedda looked down, appearing to be nervous. "She did offer a bargain for this in return."
"That's to be expected." Rick nodded. "What terms would that be?"
Jedda looked away a moment, appearing to be hesitant about what she had to tell him. Finally, she gathered the courage to speak up. "She would want us to move to the Netherworld and me being Queen of the Netherworld."
"Are you going to take the offer?" Rick asked.
Jedda sighed. "I'm not sure yet. I want to keep you safe but I'm not too sure what to do at this moment. Mother also told me she will give us time for an answer."
There was a pause of silence as the pair kept staring at each other. She could tell he didn't know what he could say as he knew this decision would affect him as well.
"Well," Rick spoke up, "I'm not sure what to think at the moment to be honest. We would both have to leave the team in that case."
"I know." Jedda nodded. "We'll need to discuss this with the rest of the team after you're cured from the mutations."
"Of course." Rick sighed. "I guess we will have to wait and see then."
"I kept wondering something." Jedda looked up. "Rick, why would you take the hit for me back at the Hall of Wisdom?"
Rick gave out a small smile. "You should know that answer by now."
He took a deep breath before he continued. "I wasn't able to save my mom from Ming, but… I was able to save you from being killed that day and that was all that mattered."
He smiled. "Even if I knew what the outcome would be in the long run, I'd do it all over again."
He caressed her face. "I love you, Jedda."
They shared a kiss. Moments later, they broke the kiss and Rick gently placed a hand on Jedda's stomach. "And I love our children. They're going to be great. I can feel it."
Jedda was startled when Rick suddenly backed away, wincing in pain.
"Rick, what's the matter?" she asked, concerned.
He took a deep breath before assuring her. "I'm okay. I just slept funny."
"Are you sure?" Jedda raised a brow, not really convinced by that answer.
"Yeah." Rick nodded. "I just need to sleep it off. Maybe it'll go away then."
"Okay. Go ahead."
They kissed again before parting away.

Cathleen watched from the distance. She noticed her target was in sight and no one was there to stop her this time. Maybe now this would be her chance to put her plan for Rick in motion. She would use him for his powers. Using his doubts, insecurities, and desires against him. She smirked in satisfaction. "I have you now, son of Flash Gordon."
They both looked up at the sky to see the two crows flying in circles.
"Those black birds?" Mandrake asked.
"They're crows," Rei answered.
"Really now?"
"Yes. Phobos and Deimos. They followed me here."
"I wonder why."

We finally meet Phobos and Deimos, which is a shout-out to the manga as well as Sailor Moon Eternal as Phobos and Deimos are both Rei's close friends and protectors.

This is the pivotal moment where everything is going to change for two of our Defenders. It's going to be interesting to see Jedda as Queen of the Netherworld in fanfiction as she has been Queen of Mongo in previous fanfics. It's also going to be interesting to see Rick most likely being her consort and eventual husband/King of the Netherworld. Also, Hadea isn't as forceful as before. We shall see how this turns out.

I written Rick's initial reaction based on how I think he might react as this is something in which I don't think anyone has ever written this situation for Rick Gordon before ever.

Here comes Cathleen in full swing! You can tell things are going to be quite intense with her making her move as well Sailor Lead Crow still in the prowl. There's a bit more to Cathleen's plan than beneath the eye which will be explored real soon.

Rei notices the effects of battle on Usagi. Meanwhile, both teams make desperate efforts to end the clash. The Sailors approach Hadea's temple, and Flash's daughter returns to lend her aid.

Rick senses that the Netherworld could face an imminent attack.
The groups begin learning more about the Kings.
Hadea and her companions take preemptive measures against Zorelda.
Hadea and Phantom explore their bond, as do several others throughout the day. First appearance of Tori Gordon.
Rick and Jedda work to resolve recent issues. Minako explores life in the Netherworld.
Ming reenters the fray as the Kings converse with Zorelda.
The groups decide that it's time for the confrontation.
The Guardians and Defenders engage the Kings in the Netherworld.
The Kings begin to realize the truth.
With Zorelda seemingly thwarted, the groups begin moving on. A woman named Rachel arrives at Monitor.
Everyone begins learning more about Rachel.
